In my 12 team AL only league I had a lousy set of keepers so was clearly looking towards 2025 in the draft. I went into the draft with these keepers:
CRaleigh $7C25
JWestburg $5B
JRodriguez $20C26
LTaveras $9B
TBradley$3B
I had a $3 penalty because I had to buy out SMcLanahan's last year of his contract.
My minor leaguers were good:
JCaminero $5M
HKjerstad $10M
CDeLauter $10M
My plan was to get two expensive players and then try to get upside future potential. Everything started out well, I got AJudge $52 but then it all went downhill from there. I felt like players were going for way more than they should have and I kept waiting and then most of the talent was gone. In the end, I left a whopping $21 dollars on the table and team that was projected to be very much in last. Here is what the team looked like when it was done.
I did well with Crochet and Gil but everything else was pretty much just blech. Green and Sears were positives as well.
My luck would turn around though. I picked up KYates in FAAB early on and someone waived DHamilton in May and I picked him up. BLively also ended up being a very good FAAB pickup. Once Judge started going off I started moving up the standings a little. I decided to make a few small trades, just for fun. Figuring I could always dump later on.
First I made a terrible trade; I traded
SWoods-Richardson, TGrisham and OPeraza
for
NVelazquez and ZLittell
That was a bust. But I rebounded by trading:
JAdell and AKirilloff
for
RArozarena and GUrshela
Then I traded:
CSilseth and DRasmussen
for
CCorrea and MGarcia
This was just as Correa was going nuts before he got hurt. Finally, I made a larger trade:
JSears, ZLittell, SMcLanahan, JRomano, JLeasure and DHamilton
for
JDuran, JRyan, FValdez, MMiller and MKopech
This trade was exactly one day before Miller went on the IL. But hopefully he will be back soon and can help me gain 2-3 points in saves. Duran, Ryan and Miller are all expiring contracts and Kopech had one year left on a contract but now that he's traded to the NL I'm off the hook for that.
I am currently in second place, 4.5 points out of first. It's been a fun ride and hopefully I can sneak into the top. I'm glad I was able to make the moves I made without trading any of my prospects. If it means I finish in 2nd I'm ok with that considering where I thought I'd be. And now It seams as though Judge, who I figured to be my big trade chip, is a keeper at $52. JSoto went for $57 and JRamirez went for $51 just to give you some context.
