  • 2K13: Michael Saunders

This is a guy who comes in under the radar, but peaks my curiosity. His overall numbers are underwhelming, but he put up phenomenal numbers over his last 30 games. Playing time seems to possibly be an issue now with the trade for Morse, as he is already listed behind Gutierrez on the depth chart in CF. But he'll be 26 entering the season and looks to have power-speed potential (and fences in Safeco have been moved in). He does struggle with the strikeouts.

Thoughts on playing time and potential numbers this year?

I'm not really sure on PT yet with the Mariners acquiring Mike Morse and how it all shakes out but I would guess somewhere between 475-525 ABs?

He's a good power/decent speed blend but he has a 30% strikeout rate and does not have the walk rate to offset it. He had a great September but it was still just 70 ABs and I'm not convinced with his crappy plate approach that real growth or a breakout is coming. He probably is what he is -- Danny Espinosa in the OF.

I'll go ahead and say something to the tune of

      500 AB
      .240 BA
      21 HRs
      55 RBI
      60 Runs
      12 SBs
Find that level above your head and help you reach it.

Here is another guy that plays because of his glove. It is not like the Mariners had many options, but still.

I actually think he has pretty solid offensive potential. He's got decent pop and speed. A 20/20 guy who can hit over .250 and plays good defence at CF seems like a pretty good player to me. I don't know why the Mariners would not start him after what he showed late last year.

            A Mike Cameron type, perhaps?
