I heard on sports radio that MLB was trying to force Angel Hernandez to retire, but he was putting up a fight. And the umpires union was also fighting it. So, MLB had to reach a financial settlement with him so he would retire. They said that Hernandez hadn't umpired a game in three weeks while they were negotiating the settlement.
