  • 2K13: Future Bets

I'm heading to Vegas for the MLK holiday weekend and will likely place a few futures bets. The Tigers, Angels and Dodgers are the current co-faves for a WS win at 7-1, followed by the Nats at 8-1. Debating who to place a wager on.

Anyone know if they have future bets on stat leaders?

If anyone wants a wager placed, PM me.

I dunno-- do all the casinos have one? I'm staying at The Mirage.

MGM Grand was easily the best sports book I went to but it's been about 4 years since I've been to Vegas. Besides WS Champs, I know they have over/under bets on total Ws for each team but not sure if those have been released or not. I don't know about individual stats.

How does future betting work if you win? Is it legal to mail the money to a state where gambling isn't legal or would you have to go back to the casino to collect your winnings?

            Here you go: http://www.betvega.com/world-series-odds/

The thing is, you have to get into the playoffs to win it all, so I'd be very leery of any AL East team.

Now that I've said that, the Rays at 22-1 might be the most interesting team on the board. Although I do like the Cards a lot at 25-1.

When will you be there? The FSTA conference is at the Mirage Mon 1/21-Wed 1/23. You may see a bunch of fantasy geeks in the bar.

AM or PM? The meet and greet and FSTA draft (broadcast on SiriusXM) is 4 PM Vegas time so there may be some of us there. I'm getting in about noon Vegas time.

Unfortunately, you need to register for the conference to see the draft.

Still, I'm sure there will be guys (and gals) coming in early.

Sorry, 10:50am. If anyone is there on Sunday, my conference ends Sunday evening around 9pm.

I don't know who you might recognize, but I'm sure there will be some guys there watching the football games in the sports bar.

If anyone wants to play along, I'm laying down the following:

$5 on the Cards (25-1) - My Cards fan friend and I have an ongoing bet on who will win the WS first, Cards or Angels (he was enraged after Pujols left). It's $100 plus annually compounded interest so this is a hedge in case they pull it off.
                          $10 on the Giants (14-1) - They've won 2 of the last 3, 14-1 is awfully high.
$25 on the Nats (9-1) - They look stacked and they'll be extra motivated to redeem themselves after last year's collapse.

                          Thanks Ed!

The Yankees at any double-digit is worth at least a token bet even if you hate their guts. Just a worthwhile investment as I think there is a better than 6% chance they win it any given year.

I planned on writing about this soon, waiting to see if Upton would be traded espec. because I like AZ at 45/1 with that pitching so I'll be sure to share once it's done.

While I was in Vegas last month, I kept meaning to place some bets on this year's World Series winner. I finally made the bets at the Flamingo, where I was staying, literally the last thing I did before I headed to the airport.

I had no idea of the odds, and in fact the cashier had to look them up, as they weren't posted on the tote board there (or anywhere else I'd looked into during the trip).

I made three bets--$50 on the Giants at 7-1; $25 on the Nationals at 8-1; and, for my WTF bet, since I'm a Pirates fan of 50 years, $25 on the Buccos at 40-1. If any of those teams wins it, I come out ahead.

As for collecting by mail, I quote from the back of my tickets--

"Winning tickets are paid in accordance with posted House Rules and may be mailed in for collection. Please write "Mail Pay" on the back of the ticket and complete in ink [name, address, signature]. Enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope and send by registered mail to:..."
