Very Early Thoughts On Keepers (NL Edition)

Relatively Deep NL 5x5 League

Appreciate any thoughts on keepers (ranking would be helpful). We can keep 7. All players will be year 2 unless otherwise noted. Year 3 is option/extend.

Carlos Beltran 17 (option year)
Jason Heyward 13 (final year)
Lucas Duda 1 (option year)
David Wright 33
Alex Gonzalez 3 (Coming off ACL surgery for Milwaukee; keepable only if he remains in NL of course)
RA Dickey 3
Ryan Vogelsong 3
Tyler Clippard 3 (option year)
Joe Blanton 1
Marco Estrada 10
Eric O'Flaherty 1

It seems to me that Desmond, Beltran, Heyward, Dickey are no-brainers. Vogelsong probably next up. After that, lots of candidates. Appreciate any thoughts or feedback. Not digging the offseason!

I agree with your 5 keeps.

I would add Estrada.

Maybe Clippard depending on when you have to turn in your rosters and how your league values this type of player.

I might keep Duda at a buck. If I passed Clippard.

Wright would depend on who will be back in the auction, but I think this early I like the cheap keeps above.

I would not keep Estrada at 10 in a league with only 7 keeps.
Inflation won't be catastrophic, and the surface numbers aren't that great.

If you keep Estrada at 10 and he earns 20 but you could have bought him at auction for 5, you still wasted 5 bucks AND a year of a contract.

How much do you guys expect him to go for?

Wright earned $32 in a 12 team NL only last year. He's a pretty good priced keeper with normal inflation. My NL only has inflation anywhere from 25-35% so I'd keep him.

So I'd keep the five you listed plus Duda plus Wright.

I'd find a way to keep Vogelsong -- he's a great keeper at $3 and Dickey/Vogelsong for $6 is a nice way to start your staff (who would've thought?). I'd try to trade Beltran, personally.
