Quinn is very fast. Could be Jimmy Rollins' successor not only position-wise but production-wise. But I suspect he needs another three years in the minors.

      thanks for your top 5.
anyone on that list who makes the opening-day roster won't be eligible for our June 15 farm draft; should have made that clear. so a few others will be bounced from the tally....

"Very fast" probably an understatement too. Very interesting player who at least has a chance to stick at SS.

I would put Gyrko in the top 5.

Wow, the Milwaukee farm system was one of the best 7-8 years ago (Fielder, Braun, Weeks, Cruz, Gallardo, Hart etc.) What happened?

Zack Greinke trade, good brewers teams and some failed picks (injuries or drugs) Rogers and Jeffries come to mind.

A combination of bad drafts and trading prospects for established players.

Here are their recent 1st round picks:
2011 - Taylor Jungmann & Jed Bradley (both struggled last year)
                2010 - Dylan Covey (didn't sign)
2009 - Eric Arnett (failed as a starter, now in the bullpen)
2008 - Brett Lawrie (traded for Shaun Marcum)
2007 - Matt LaPorta (traded for CC Sabathia)
2006 - Jeremy Jeffress (traded for Zack Geinke)

                In the four years prior:
                2005 - Ryan Braun
2004 - Mark Rogers (he's been injured a lot, but he's competing for a rotation spot this spring)
                2003 - Rickie Weeks
                2002 - Prince Fielder

It's also easier to get stars when your team stinks and you're drafting towards the top of the draft.

That is a valid point. Fielder, Weeks and Braun were all top 5 picks and the Brewers haven't picked higher than #7 since 2005, and that does play a big part in why the farm isn't among the best anymore.

On the other hand, the Brewers need to find a way to capitalize on their picks. The Cardinals and Angels have been in similar draft positions to the Brewers in recent years (picking between the middle and end of the round), but they have done a better job with their picks.

                    Year Brewers Cardinals Angels
2009 Eric Arnett (26) Shelby Miller (19) Randal Grichuk (24)
                    Mike Trout (25)
2010 Dylan Covey (14) Zack Cox (25) Kaleb Cowart (18)
                    Cam Bedrosian (29)
                    Chevy Clarke (30)
                    2011 Taylor Jungmann (12)
                    Jed Bradley (15)
                    Kolten Wong (22) C. J. Cron (17)
It's not all gloom and doom for the Brewer's system though. While they haven't been able to find any impact players in recent years, they have acquired a bunch of guys who could be solid regulars. Here are the Brewer's Top 20 according to John Sickels.

I'm bumping this since BA will be posting their Top 100 soon. I also added 33 'honorable mentions'. I usually get about 90 of the names correct. Some of the missing names are on my honorable mention list and usually there are 1-2 names that are a complete surprise.

Well, I did about as well as I usually do. I got 91 out of the 100. The ones I missed were:
                        - A Garcia (#74)
                        - M Ozuna (#75)
                        - A Vizcaino (#83)
                        - J Nicolino (#86)
                        - H Owens (#91)
                        - J Graham (#93)
                        - B Rondon (#95)
                        - M Stroman (#98)
                        - R Quinn (#100)

All of the ones I missed were among my HM's, except for Stroman, so he was the big surprise for me.

The guys I had who didnt make it were:
                        - R Liriano
                        - C Seager
                        - Joc Pederson
                        - M Choice
                        - A Mondesi
                        - D Paulino
                        - A Cole
                        - Z Lee
                        - J Schoop
