  • My prediction of BA's 2013 Top 100 Prospects (not in order)

Rather than post another updated Top 150 roto prospects, I decided to post my early prediction of BA's Top 100 prospects. This is based a lot on BA's League Top 20's, altho quite a few didnt qualify for any of those lists. Names are alphabetically arranged; I'm not predicting the exact rankings (that would take a lot more time). 52/48 AL/NL split (remember that Houston is in the AL now) and 55/45 hitter/pitcher split.

11/2 - Updated list to remove Cron, Head and Parker, and replace with DeShields, Martin and Davis. Now 53/47 AL/NL split.
11/4 - Updated list to remove Davis, Banuelos and Romero, and replace with Heathcott, B Jackson and Joseph. Now 51/49 AL/NL split and 57/43 hitter/pitcher split.
11/19 - Updated list to remove Joseph, and replace with Ventura. Now 50/50 AL/NL split and 56/44 hitter/pitcher split.
11/20 - Updated list to remove Rosario, Folty and Stratton, and replace with Paulino, Gibson and Schoop. Now 51/49 AL/NL split and 57/43 hitter/pitcher split.
11/26 - Updated list to remove B Jackson, and replace with Folty. Now 52/48 AL/NL split and 56/44 hitter/pitcher split.
11/29 - Updated list to remove Straily, and replace with Stratton. Now 51/49 AL/NL split.
12/6 - Updated list to remove J Gallo and C Buckel, and replace with M Choice and M Perez.
12/12 - Updated list to remove J Nicolino and replace with H Ryu. Now 52/48 AL/NL split (Bauer traded to AL).
12/17 - Updated list to remove C Seager and replace with R Quinn. Now 50/50 AL/NL split (D'Arnaud and Syndergard traded to NL).
12/19 - Updated list to remove C Sanchez and replace with L Giolito. Still 50/50 AL/NL split (Meyer had been traded to Min) and 55/45 hitter/pitcher split.
1/10 - Updated list to remove D Paulino and replace with W Peralta. Now 49/51 AL/NL split and 54/46 hitter/pitcher split.
1/16 - Updated list to remove J Bell and replace with D Corcino. Now 53/47 hitter/pitcher split.
1/25 - Updated list to remove Folty and replace with C Seager. Now 48/52 AL/NL split and 54/46 hitter/pitcher split.
1/29 - Updated list to remove M Wisler and replace with D Paulino. Now 49/51 AL/NL split and 55/45 hitter/pitcher split.
1/30 - Updated list to remove C Stratton and replace with B Rondon. Now 50/50 AL/NL split.
2/1 - Updated list to remove R Quinn and replace with D Gregorius.
2/7 - Updated list to remove B Rondon and replace with A Mondesi. Now 56/44 hitter/pitcher split.

Is Dan Vogelbach, 1b, Cubs, at all on your radar or still too green? Sickels has called him a legitimately complete hitter with a maximum projection of Prince Fielder, and said his next update would have him as a B prospect.

The Sickels article was a Vogelbach feature in mid august on minorleagueball.com, so it is a bit dated.

      Thanx for the response, gcstomp.

He's on my radar, but this is re: BA's list. He was ranked only #14 on BA's Arizona League Top 20, although he was #2 on their NW League list. Nothing that I've heard indicates that BA will put him on their Top 100, altho he might make their Top 150. Not all that close to my Top 150.

I think these guys would probably be in their top 150, most in the 100-150 range but a few will probably break the top 100:

        Dan Vogelbach 1B CHC
        Mikie Mahtook OF TB
        Brad Miller SS Sea
        Jose Berrios P Min
        Dorssys Paulino SS Cle

I have a list of my own "just misses" for BA's list, which include a couple of the ones you listed above:

          B Jackson
          L Martin
          D DeShields
          D Paulino
          Y Ventura
          A Chafin
          R Shaffer
          A Hechavarria
          J Hellweg
          J Graham
          B Rondon
          D Gregorius
          A Mondesi
          T Joseph

As their Team Top 10's come out, I'll have more of an idea who's on or off. Rt before they publish their Top 100, my list usually has about 90 of them and I miss on about 10. So they always have some surprises.

No Brewers? Not sure if BA has omitted an entire franchise from their list in the past (they may have).

Great idea to do this forecast, by the way - what fun, and useful as I assess my team's minor league list vs. other teams!

Kyle Parker surprises me. A Colorado hitter. Your list, for Roto purposes, would have him ranked worse than BA, which doesn't consider Roto purposes. Doesn't make much sense to me unless you are really down on Parker relative to BA's impressions of him.

Yeah, it's rare but they've done it. If anyone makes it, it might be Hellweg (now w the Brewers).

                  Thanx for the responses, james33.

While I do value BA's rankings, I have my own ideas. I included him in my projected BA list because he was #8 on the Cal League list, just ahead of C.J. Cron who I also thought would make the Top 100. But I may have miscalculated on Parker because Miles Head was ranked #7 on the Cal list and CAllis on the recent BA RedSox Team Top 10 Chat said that he would have ranked Head below #13 and only the top 5 had a good chance of making their Top 100, so Head is no where near contention. I've moved Parker, Head and Cron off my projected list now and have substituted DeShields, L Martin and DJ Davis.

I think I like Brad Miller a lot more than most. I honestly am surprised he hasn't been getting more hype as a prospect, especially with shortstop such a weak position these days.

I like Miller, too. He offers a nice potential power/speed combo. He now is on my Top Roto 150 list (at the very back). BA's scouting report says he is an erratic defender and may fit better at 2B. They compare him to Kyle Seager, who despite his good year in MLB wasnt rated highly as a prospect.

I would expect 5 Seattle guys to make BA's list; pretty obvious who those 5 are. Miller was #9 on BA's Mariners list behind Proscia, Capps and Stefen Romero.

for those who don't do farms or not deep ones and think a top 100 is a stretch, we have 24 farm picks coming in mid-April - and only 21 NLers on the list aren't already owned! I think D'Arnaud will go 1st in this Met-loving league. I have one of the seven lottery picks and will find out this month where I pick.....

What do you think of Kyle's brother in the Dodger's system. More of a fantasy bat for certain.
