why, Hector Sanchez is superior to him from both hitting and the physical side of catching. I've said before that I think SF would want Whiteside as a minor league coach more than anything

Like the money as the investment is cheap. Going to be interesting in LF when he plays. I would have rather have seen Ruf get his ABs.
Bob- I'm not exactly sure it would ROCK as you say it Byron.. it may be cool, by typical text book descriptions. Your opinion of this is shallow and poorly constructed, but allow me to re-craft your initial thought into something tangable.

Looks like he'll be playing RF and Domonic Brown will be in a platoon in LF. Crap.

          • If only this meant that the Phil's went the smart route and platooned Howard with Mayberry at first.

I can't see that lasting too long. I still say that the at bats can be won by Ruf and Brown. It's just that nobody trusts them right now. Plus, there are DH at bats to be had.

yeah, I'm hoping that the $750k salary also means that they won't feel bad about ignoring him if Ruf and/or Brown pan out.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

I am half kidding, but as Jason has pointed out the Rays have had a different team leader in saves something like 5 years in a row.

                      • So the Rays have cornered the market on pitchers who were busted using fake names. In addition to Juan Carlos Oveido (formerly Leo Nunez), they also have Roberto Hernandez (formerly Fausto Carmona).

Will he stand on the warning track to play RF like he did in left during the WS?

Another detail that came out-Delmon is likely out until May while he continues to rehab his ankle. That would certainly gives Brown and Ruf the opportunity to win full-time at bats while Delmon would serve as an insurance policy.

Wow, the Mets were all over him. Maybe now the Bourn rumors are true?
