And why do the Rays need to spend 3mil on their 4th (?) best reliever (McGee, Rodney, Peralta)?
Likely as the situational 'ground ball guy' that they lost when Badenhop left.

and you can never have enough pitching......"when you think you have enough pitching, go out and get another" Also the $3M spent on him will be saved long-term by not starting the clock on Archer/Odorizzi.

Fausto Carmona was once thought to have frontline starter potential and even briefly glimpsed those heights. With the success the Rays have had developing and re-building pitchers, Carmona could be interesting. I'd spend a buck on him.

Ohhhh, I've done that too many times with Fausto...never again. I'm sure that the Rays look at what happened with Rodney last year and think that they can catch lighting in a bottle again. A more likely scenario is that Rodney becomes Rodney again, and Fausto remains Fausto...

On any other team, I'd avoid him too.

This one seems odd to me. A lot to pay for a MR that has never proven he can stay in a rotation.

He was able to stay in the Jays' rotation last year. He allows baserunners but gets key strikeouts to limit the damage...most of the time. If Fausto gets 3.25 mil, I think 5 is fair for CV.

So what is their rotation going to be? You've got Jackson, Garza and Samardzija. I assume they intend on starting Villanueva based on that contract. And then Travis Wood? Baker bouncing Wood if/when he comes back?

                      They also signed Scott Feldman.

Add Sandy Rosario the traveling team:

10/17 Red Sox claimed him from the Marlins
11/28 Boston then traded him to Oakland for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
11/30 A's designated Rosario for assignment
12/10 Red Sox claimed him a second time.
12/12 Cubs claimed him off the Red Sox
12/21 Giants claimed him off the Cubs

Thats a whole lotta frequent flyer mileage for 2 guys.

                          • minor acquisitions

Jays claimed Russ Canzler off waivers from Cleveland. He could stick as a 5th OF & sometime 1B/DH against LHP (i.e. to get Lind out of the lineup)

Twins sign Rich Harden to a minor league deal. I always thought he would have made a good closer.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I had Harden in my fantasy accountant league but he blew out his arm making the balance sheet balance. I will pass on him.
