You're misinterpreting my post. I like THIS deal. I worry that if it falls through the mets might take a lesser offer (avoid paying Dickey). This deal is painful (I like RA Dickey) but compelling.

The mets have to realize that if they don't deal him this offseason, the return will be much more modest in-season. They screwed up with Reyes. Hopefully they learn their lesson. Sign Dickey to an extension an beg his forgiveness for the less-than-sensitive treatment OR deal him now for a real prospect package. Don't settle for some lousy dump deal.

    • plus, the deadline is Tues afternoon ... would they have given up by last night? doubtful.

edit: missed the last few posts ... obviously not real
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

as the Jays acquire not one but two backstops in the Dickey deal, I hope Mr. Whiteside hasn't unpacked yet!

Fixed. Arencibia/Thole will be the Jays' catching tandem this year.

ETA: Toronto officially acquired Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and Minor League catcher Mike Nickeas in the seven-player trade that was announced Monday evening. The Mets received top catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud, right-hander Noah Syndergaard, catcher John Buck and Minor Leaguer Wuilmer Becerra.

So the Jays move a MLB and minor league catcher and get same in return. Status quo.

LoL maybe status quo as in they are all human beings. Have fun watching those two try and catch.

                • Well, it's not a terrible idea to get a knuckleballer's catcher and his caddy as throw-ins in a deal for a Cy Young-winning knuckleballer....

                  • Apparently that was the reason for Nickeas. They wanted someone else who could catch Dickey in case Thole got hurt.

I watched less of the Mets than usual this year, but if I remember correctly, Nickeas is pretty solid defensively. Dreadful with the bat though. They may want to bat the pitcher and DH for him if he's playing.

Excellent update, DQ! After 3% of Valdez' plate appearances, pitchers asked themselves "How the #$%^ did I walk that guy?"

                              • The Rays signed Roberto Hernandez (not the former Ray, but the former Fausto Carmona) to a 1-year, 3.25mil deal. I don't understand that at all. I thought Carmonandez wanted to start, and he went to a team with 42 starting pitchers before teams had finalized their rotations. And why do the Rays need to spend 3mil on their 4th (?) best reliever (McGee, Rodney, Peralta)?
