Take Braun out of the Brewer lineup, and they're about 30 back - in May. Fact is, the Giants have a whole lot more than Posey - a strong top three SPs, decent #4 (Zito, amazingly enough), and a very strong bullpen. Maybe the Giants don't make the playoffs without Posey, but they'd be close. The Pirates aren't remotely relevant without Cutch, and the Brewers would have been beyond buried without Braun.

According to WAR, they'd win 72. And still not be in the playoffs.

With his WAR being 6.8, they'd have 77 wins.

Unless, of course, everyone tosses out the WAR statistic when it doesn't make a good argument.

Agreed. Posey's OPS in the 2nd half was 1.102! 164 OPS+ for the season from a C makes Posey the MVP, Cutch 2nd, Braun 3rd. IMO.
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

Which brings up a question that I don't know the answer to, and maybe these guys can help -- is WAR bent towards the up the middle positions (C, 2B, SS, CF)? It seems like guys with solid, if unspectacular stats, at those positions who play above-average defense have higher WARs. True?
