  • Strasburg's Value

    I have Stras at $4 2nd year in a 10 team 5x5 NL Only.

I don't want to deal him as I'd planned on extending him next season, but I might have to to win the title.

What's a reasonable return to expect for him?

In other news, I , made my first trade of the year on the heels of losing morrison for the season and falling out of 1st for the 1st time in months.

    I send: T Hanson $12 3/5 and L Morrrison $1 2/3

    I get: C Capuano $4 1/3, Lilly Exp, C Young OF Exp, A Soriano 22 1/3

I need the offense as these guys will replace the injured Morrison and Denorfia in my line up--Capuano will replace Hanson.

Thoughts on the deal and Strasburgs's vale are greatly appreciated.

I have him for $6 in a 12 team mixed keeper league and consider him untouchable even though i am in fourth place. I really believe that he is "only" about 90-95% recovered from his TJ surgery and will actually be stronger next season. He could be the best pitcher in baseball by then.

There is talk of his innings limit now being 180 instead of 160. That would give you an extra 3 starts from him this year if you keep him.

in your opinion at $4 would he warrant a Braun+ Kemp on high salary/exp salary deal? Or say an Espinosa $5 + Burnett $3 deal?

Well, i guess Braun + Kemp would be too good to pass up if you really need the hitting and the rest of your pitching is solid. Whether or not he is worth it will be answered by your trade partner. I wouldn't deal him for Espinosa + Burnett.

A rebuilder seeking Strasburg should be willing not only to pony up the expiring studs, but work you on the margins - like you get an unkeepable $10 value hitter or two for any other drek you have left in your lineup. Would be absurd for the other guy to make that a dealbreaker, and you can add nice insurance that way.

I'd engage a bidding war for a Strasburg that cheap. You deserve to lock up the title if you deal him, hands down.

as the Espinosa etc. owner: unfortunately most of the teams that had good players left have already dumped. GITH got a couple decent players out of Morrison/Hanson as noted in the "Have you ever..." thread.

The possible offer was something like Strasburg (4/yr 2), ECabrera (5/yr 1), LaHair (15/yr 1), Bauer (11/yr 1) for Goldschmidt (5/yr 1), Espinosa (5/yr 2), Burnett (3/yr 1), McKenry (5/yr 1), Ruggiano (10/yr 1). So I would be getting the best keeper in the deal and giving up a handful of good keepers of my own. I still can't figure out if that's even good for me, but it also doesn't seem like enough to get him over the hump.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

Yeah, that's not a good deal at all for the Strasburg owner. Goldy and Espinosa are nice, maybe AJ and McKenry have another year of magic, but I'd want 2 studs and then some or I would just keep him.

not even close for the Strasburg owner. if that's all the market will offer, I'd take my chances on this year and be in great shape again next year. And I say this as a major "flags fly forever" proponent.

I agree--though when I get worried about losing the title I weaken a bit.

Oh, I'll "overpay" to get the right piece - witness Stanton 5 and Posey 10 for Halladay 44 in May 2010.

but neither of those two guys had even reached the majors yet.
Strasburg IS what Halladay was then, especially in 2013 thinking as the gloves will be off.
And Strasburg IS what Stanton and Posey were then - very cheap keepers, except again, Strasburg already is established and they were not.

Some would never trade Strasburg at that price, but I would (and did). But the other guy is getting the Hope Diamond, and you should be compensated at least something close to his value.

I hear ya-- what about Bauer at $11? I have him, Cole $11 and carlos Martinez $10 oh and Jungmann at $5-- they have value too, just not sure how much.

12 TM NL, I have been in 1st wire to wire this season. On 7/9 I traded away my $5 Stras (at the time I had a 15ish point lead over 2nd) for an at value so maybe keepable B Phillips, R Braun (non keep), and J Mcdonald. My thought process was that Stras ip cap was fast approaching. Funny thing happened on way to funny farm since then, Mcdonald went toxic on me, unleashing 4 consecutive baaad starts on my ratios. My lead is down to 13 points over 2nd, pitching has holes, but my hitting looks awesome, even with recent injury to Panda. I still have 10+ keepers for next few years I really like so I didnt sell the entire farm this title run.

But point is a cheap for multi years Stras was to me valued as 2 studs and a solid sp, the sp part I guess was a mirage, but never mind that. You are not being offered anything close to that level back.
