Big blow to many as he really turned it around after a horrid start. I, of course, traded him after his horrid start, so this news no longer affects me directly, but it is still a shame to see great players go down. The good news is that what I've read leading up to this decision seems to indicate this isn't a huge deal, so he should be back strong in a month or so.

He is on the DL in ESPN leagues. The Marlins were waiting awhile, I assume, to decide who to call up to replace him. But he should be on the DL now. What site are you using?

Yahoo. Got markakis stuck in a dl spot, and was hoping to switch by gametime.

im 99% sure the marlins have not yet made an official move. I assume it will happen before gametime today...but nothing yet. Probably wont happen in time fore yahoo or cbs to catch up with it.

Yep, he has not been officially placed on the DL yet.

Except in the yahoo universe. Even though they link to the mlb page for dl guys, they never gave him the dl designation for tonight.

Or the CBS universe, where they have a news blurb next to his name saying he's on the DL, yet they don't have the DL icon and you can't move him there yet.

Sounds like good news for Stanton owners:

"Giancarlo Stanton was walking around without crutches today for the first time since having arthroscopic surgery Sunday on his right knee. He said the plan is to have stitches removed Monday and then start full rehab activities.

The team said he will be out four to six weeks, but Stanton said he could not guess if he will return sooner rather than later. He was encouraged, however, that he was not feeling any pain or discomfort today.

“No pain except where the stitches are when they are pulling sometimes,” he said. Stanton said doctors removed “two pieces of cartilage out that broke off” inside his knee. He said doctors checked the rest of the knee and told him it looked good. “It feels pretty good,” he said."
