  • RHD's Top 150 Roto Prospects - Write-ups #81-#120

Zack Wheeler - Elite arm and strong K-rate. Needs better control.
Dellin Betances - He was one of the highest-rated pitchers coming out of HS, but injuries slowed his development. He's established as a top prospect now and is very projectible. The Yanks wish for his speedy development.
Danny Duffy - After returning from his 'personal leave of absence', he picked up where he left off and reestablished himself as a top prospect. It currently appears that he'll be in the future KC rotation but he'll have a lot of competition. I have to wonder, at least a little, what the reason for his quitting was, and whether it could recur.
Nick Castellanos - Another top hitter out of the draft that needs pro ABs.
Jared Mitchell - Gifted athlete trying to come back from serious injury. Did not have a good AFL campaign so he has things to prove now.
Josh Vitters - Much maligned prospect, too much so, I think. Injuries slowed him last year, but his stats were not too bad and he was a little young for his leagues. Plate discipline still needs work.
Yonder Alonso - Has been rather disappointing but still considered a good hitting prospect. Doesn’t project anywhere but 1B and that position currently is occupied by an MVP in Cincy. Will have to prove his bat is strong enough for them to consider moving Votto to the OF. Could use a trade.
Devin Mesoraco - Really shot up the charts last year after several disappointing, injury-plagued pro seasons. Needs to confirm that last year was for real.
Wilin Rosario - Supposedly has an impact bat. Very good stats. Needs to show he's fully recovered from his injury.
Eury Perez - His status as a future MLB regular doesn’t appear as certain as other big SB guys ranked above him. BA rates him the Mets' best athlete.
Matt Lipka - Favorable BA scouting reports and excellent SB stats, which are legit. BA rates him the Braves' best athlete.
Delino DeShields - Along w Villar, considered to be Houston's MI combo of the future. Another guy w big SB potential. Is ranked below Villar because he's farther away from MLB and has less pro experience. Hopefully his recent DUI charge is just a blip on the radar.
Yorman Rodriguez - A highly-talented Latin prospect whose stats began to justify the hype last year. Probably very far away from MLB.
Derek Norris - Injury problems early last year, but hit well in the 2nd half. Excellent plate discpline. Uncertain whether he'll stick at C.
Joe Benson - Considered to have very good talent and has good power-speed combo. BA rates him the Twins' best athlete. Plate discipline is a problem. Twins' OF is rather crowded now, too.
Engel Beltre - Another highly-talented Latin prospect whose stats began to justify the hype last year.
Drew Pomeranz - One of several highly-rated pitchers drafted last year that has either not pitched much or not at all in the pros.
Zach Lee - See write-up for Pomeranz, above.
Anthony Ranaudo - Injury prior to the draft caused him to fall, but performance in Cape Cod convinced experts he's all the way back. See write-up for Pomeranz, above.
Christian Colon - Considered to be a future solid MLB regular, but not all-star. Could be close to average in all categories and above average in BA.
Jurickson Profar - Loads of talent, a lot of which is in his glove. But offensively he may be good enough to post close to average stats in most categories. Very far away from MLB.
Oswaldo Arcia - Put up phenomenal stats and I was surprised that BA didn’t rate him higher. But his BABIP was over 400. Not considered good defensively so he'll have to keep hitting his way into top prospect status.
Josh Sale - Another highly-rated hitting draft prospect who needs pro ABs.
Jason Knapp - Elite potential but has health concerns. Uncertain status as a starter, also.
Jenrry Mejia - Maybe I should rank him higher, but his smallish stature and uncertainty re: being starter keep me from doing so.
Nick Weglarz - When healthy, he hits well, but injuries are a concern and he is a bat-first type. Doesn’t seem like he fits in the OF to me. With LaPorta and Hafner in Cleveland, uncertain where he would fit, altho LaPorta could move to the OF if he hits.
Jake Odorizzi - Another KC stud pitcher who figures to be in the future rotation.
Brody Colvin - The first of 3 highly-rated Philly pitchers. I have him first because BA ranked him above the others and his stats are comparable.
Jarred Cosart - See above write-up for Colvin.
Stetson Allie - Write-up for Pomeranz, above, applies. He has higher upside than Pomeranz, et al. (experts liken his stuff to Taillon's), but has higher risk too. Pirates hope he can remain a starter.
Deck McGuire - See write-up for Pomeranz, above.
Tyler Skaggs - Very good stats and projectible but his move to Ariz depresses his roto stock a bit.
Chris Dwyer - Still another KC stud pitching prospect. Is there room for him in the future KC rotation?
Jake McGee - Former elite pitching prospect slowed by injuries the past few years that has reestablished himself as a top prospect. No room in the TB rotation. Could be their closer out of ST, altho supposedly Kyle Farnsworth (?!) is the favorite now.
Tim Beckham - #1 overall draftee that has disappointed w both offense and defense. Still considered good prospect, tho, and good SB potential.
Chris Marrero - Another maligned prospect that I still believe in some. He's not considered very good defensively even for 1B so he'll really have to hit
Xavier Avery - Prospect status rose a lot last year. Good SB potential but needs much improved plate discipline. BA rates him the O's best athlete.
Brandon Guyer - Another guy that became a legit prospect last year and there would appear to be room for him in the future TB OF rt now. The SBs are legit, but he'll have to prove he's more than a 4th OFer.
Johermyn Chavez - Big-time power potential. Needs work w plate discipline.
Jerry Sands - Considered legit prospect now w his 2nd big pro year in a row. Can steal a few bases, too, altho he reportedly has below-average speed.
