  • HOE Nominees

    Ok, junkies, time to do your RJ civic duty and vote in the Hall Of Exceelence (HOE) forum. We are going to nominate between 8-10 players per week and see how our very HOE compares to the HOF. The process will be similar to the HOF, with nominees needing 75% of the vote to be inducted. Each member of the RJ community is free to use his own criteria when evaluating nominees but please weigh the pros and cons of each nominee and certainly join in the discussion if you feel strongly one way or another, that's what will make this endeavor worthwhile.

    We're going roughly in chronological order by decade. Polls will be open for a week and there will definitely be some interesting debates and discussions surrounding the nominees. This week's nominees are:

    Cap Anson 1B/3B/C 1871-1897
    Ross Barnes 2B/SS 1871-1881
    Candy Cummings P 1872-1877
    King Kelly C/3B/OF 1878-1893
    Cal McVey 1B/C/OF 1871-1879
    Al Spalding P 1871-1878
    Monte Ward SS/2B/P 1878-1894

      Yea, to ensure no trolls come in and try to vote no on everyone...would only need a couple to really disrupt things. I hope this isn't a deterrent to anyone.

        The vote counts whether anyone likes your reasoning or not. That's what is great.
        Find that level above your head and help you reach it.

          Ok, there's a wide variability in terms of vote counts so I'm bumping this to encourage folks who may have voted for a couple nominees to cast a vote for the rest. For the slackers who haven't voted at all, what are you waiting for?

              Ok folks...voting turnout is pretty sad this week, a few of this week's nominees have the percentage but not the minimum number of votes to get in. This week's group includes a pair of siblings, a phenom who died at age 25 of typhoid fever, and the first non-HOFer with a good chance of making the HOE. Please check out the HOE forum and vote!

                    I'm actually enjoying learning about these guys. Even though I've heard some of the names, I still didn't really know much about them, so this has been very informative.

                        We have a new group of nominees up for vote, including: the 19th century equivalent of Ozzie Smith, a player who retired as the active career leader in HRs AND SBs, and of course a few all-time legends, one of whom registered possibly the single greatest hitting season of all-time and another who never even won the award that bears his name!
