Last night, I have Yovani Gallardo, A.J. Burnett, Joe Saunders and Paul Maholm all pitching. With that group, I was prepared for at least one blow-up and possibly as many as three, but I never expected it to come from my supposed ace, Gallardo, while the others all pitched good to great.
I went into the season counting on Yovani Gallardo (6.08 ERA, 1.65 WHIP) and Adam Wainwright (7.32 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) to anchor my staff, didn't know what to expect from Johan Santana (3.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) and A.J. Burnett (1.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP), and would just just hold my breath and roll the dice with Kyle Lohse (0.99 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, $5 reserve pick from last year that I couldn't give away this past off-season) and Joe Saunders (0.90 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, a reserve round pick this year). There is no way that Lohse and especially Saunders can keep up that pace, but at least I'll hopefully have bounce backs from Gallardo and Wainwright to balance things out.
