  • Dealing for Lester

Last night I put Reyes, Rollins and Beltre OTB looking for SP and a closer. Thus far no luck getting a closer.

I was offered Lester for Beltre.

    1) Should I be worried about Lester's last 2 outings?
    2) Should I take this deal?
    3) Should I try to swap in Rollins or Reyes?

H2H league, 16 teams. Yearly, no keepers. Categories: R-HR-RBI-SB-OBP and QS-Svs-ERA-WHIP-OBP

I have a lot of hitting and my pitching is doing well but the names aren't sexy.

    C - Y.Molina
    1B - Miggy (3b)
    2B - A.Hill
    3B - Beltre
    SS - Reyes
    MI - Rollins
    CI - C.Pena
    OF - Braun
    OF - BJ Upton
    OF - Rasmus
    UT - Ike Davis
    UT - Pierre
Bench - Huff, Heisey, C.Johnson, Pennington
    IR - B.Roberts
    Minors - Snider

SP - Peavy, Dempster (DL), Colon, Lilly, Norris, Estrada, Beaven, Porcello
RP - Santos (DL), Valverde, Jansen, Stammen

We start 5 SP and 3 RP

Would love some advice from the Pen!

Lester is a notorious slow starter ... ERA over 4 in April and May, then under 3 June, July, August

Taking a look back over the last 4 years Lester had 1 good April (2011). He had 2 good months of May ('08 and '10).

With your note here what are you advising?

I am advising that early season stats can be misleading ... do we think Pujols will hit zero home runs this year? Barring injury or old age, players stats regress to norm

          Uh, great.

Anyone have any advice on the actual deal?

I would trade Beltre for Lester ... you have a solid infield without him

I agree my INF, my hitting, can afford to lose a bat.

I just wonder if I am selling a bit low on Beltre. I do like Lester, but most every pre-season ranking or ADP I can find has Beltre above Lester 10-20 slots.

You are selling a bit low in terms of overall value, but relative to your team, I'd do the deal. Peavy's a known injury risk; Colon and Lilly are still very good but ancient and likely more prone to injury. Estrada and Beavan have been good so far, but are far from a sure thing for the long haul.
I'm just here for the baseball.

i think you might want to wait a few days and see what other offers, if any, roll in. you might get another SP that's an uptick from lester. or, see who has a surplus of arms and lack of sticks, and make an offer directly. use the lester deal as a baseline, and a fallback option.

Thanks folks - willing to take all opinions!

in H2H is Reyes > Beltre? (he would take either for Lester)
