  • PONY 2012 Draft Thread

Wayne did get his pink donut this year.

Can't attach the keeper list because .xls files aren't allowed any more. We had a last minute drop-out so we have 15 teams instead of 16. Adjusting on the fly will be key.

Do you always draft after the season starts? And are stats retroactive?
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

Bullshit is everywhere. - George Carlin (& Jon Stewart)

No we usually do it in mid march. Yes the stats are retroactive, but we are being allowed to choose our lineups including rsv guys. It is an interesting dynamic.

                  Another great PONY draft!

I can't tell you how much I enjoy this day each year.

It's so great to hang out and draft with some of the best Junkie minds.

I can compete with the best in football.....baseball...not so much....but with a new "wingman" this year, this league better watch out!

                  Let the games begin!

I want to write up my thoughts on my team later, but first some thoughts on the auction.

I'm not sure if it was the 15-team dynamic, or the fact that so many closers have already lost their jobs, but 2nd tier closers went extremely cheap. This happened despite the fact that there weren't many closers available.

Kimbrel (25) and Rivera (24) came out early and were probably about right. After that Valverde went for 17 which was fair, Heath Bell for 16 which might be a little high, and then we had a long wait for the next closer. Street went for 11, Santiago Casilla went for 10, Capps for 6, Balfour 9, Marmol 8 and Henry Rodriguez 7.

Then another long wait, and then Aceves 11, Andrew Bailey 3, Greg Holland for 5, Hector Santiago for 7, Mike Adams for 4, Broxton for 1.

                    Closers by team:

                    Drew - 0
                    JC - 3.5 (H-Rod as half)
                    Wayne - 3
Erik - 3.5 (Brox as half)
                    Dennis - 2
                    Gris - 1
                    Randy - 2
Lildogs - 1.5 (Storen as half)
                    Dalaine - 0
                    Conn - 2
                    Ray - 3
                    Keith - 2
Del - 3 (Counting Aceves as whole)
                    Dan - 1
Jeff - 2.5 (Counting Holland as half)

The other thing that stood out was the disparity in hitting and pitching budgets. We ended up at 67/33 which is a little pitching heavy, but not too crazy. But there were some wild swings for individual teams.

                    Drew 79% offense
                    Ray 78% offense
                    Dan 77% offense
                    JC 73% offense
                    Del 73% offense

                    Gris 58% offense
                    Conn 58% offense
                    Lildogs 57% offense
                    Wayne 50% offense

Yeah, I'm sorta doomed there. I like most of my pitching buys, but I spent too much money. I think there were a couple of guys I just thought were going too cheap and I ended up with them.

Currently I'm ok with my team and it's 58% offense split.

We'll see how it plays out.

Did you guys do this live? And is it redraft?

Thanks for posting. Sounds like a good time.

We did do it live. And it was a good time. It's a keeper league, with the added challenge that the number of teams seems to change every year.
