I took over a truly horrible team, made many trades to get something to start with--then [excuses, I know!] had a crappy draft for any number of good reasons. My problem is this: there is next to nothing left in the free agent pool with a 12-team, 25 active, 15 reserve roster, so fixing my roster will have to be done with astute trades.
C---maybe the best offensive position in the bunch: J Castro and M Lucroy
1B---Goldschmidt, at value, but should contribute several cats
3B--D Wright, hopefully healthy and well-pleased with the fences at Citi Field this year
SS---Furcal, already struggling
2B---Dan Murphy, healthy at last?
MI---S Drew, will he ever be healthy and meet expectations?
OF---Tabata, healthy [note this seems to be a recurring issue?] and ready to run
OF---L Duda, my favorite keeper
OF---J Schafer, another keeper I expect to have a good year
OF---D DeJesus, $6. and I hope a bargain
OF---B LaHair---my handcuff with A Rizzo in my minors reserve--I actually like this guy.
Extras---Paredes [in minors], Descalso [I like his versatility], C Coghlin [ugh! a mistake bid]
Reserve hitters include some decent guys, but all are future, no use this year at all.
PITCHING---
Stauffer, Worley, Karstens---my pitching keepers! Nothing to see here, folks, move along!
Hanrahan as closer--nice price for this league at $27.
A Chapman---where is he slotted? At $9, he can be huge.
Dempster, E Bedard[ takes to the NL?]Eovaldi, Gregerson, Rauch, all of whom are cheap.CM Wang on the reserve if he ever gets healthy.
I had 3 first round picks, whom I expect to all thrive, but they are all down-the-line guys: Skaggs, Erlin, T Jenkins
All the cheap keepers, huge rosters, and the utter lack of FAAB targets make this a huge problem. I needed to draft well and did not do it. Any ideas for trade targets? Not necessarily specific players, but areas that will move the team along to competitive? I will likely sit tight, as usual, for 3-4 weeks and see how it shakes out, but I know I need to do a lot of work.
Thanks!
