With some recent injuries to guys like Madson, Soria, Chris Perez, etc, there are alot of guys in waiting who could end up as a great source of saves. How would you rank the following?

    Vinnie Pestano
    Sean Marshall
    Greg Holland
    Broxton
    Aaron Crow

Anyone else in the closer got hurt in the last few weeks group?

All the reports on Broxton are bad so far. IMO, if he gets the job due to the "established closer" mindset, he'll lose it quickly.

Marshall is a beast, and he may well Wally Pipp his competition right out of the job. I like Pestano and think he'll take the job from CPerez eventually, but Perez has had a good rehab and is supposed to be back by Opening Day or very close.
I'm just here for the baseball.

Although I'm not drinking the Kool-aid this is what manager Ned Yost had to say about Broxton:
"He was throwing 95, 97 [mph] today with an 89 mph slider. That's overpowering stuff," manager Ned Yost said. "Plus he's commanding the ball down in the zone and moving it in and out. It doesn't get much better than that."
He had off-season surgery and if he can revert to pre-injury form he might just take the role. It would benefit the Royals to give the job to Broxton, have him do well and sell high---THEN give the job to Holland.
Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!

Interesting - thanks guys. Looks like Storen may be out for opening day also which could throw Lidge and Clippard into the mix here also.

If they are smart, this is exactly what they should do. Broxton is on a 1 yr deal for 4m plus incentives. They have Holland for 4-5 more years on the cheap. Unless you are a strong contender...maximize the guys you don't plan on keeping long term.

It sounds like they would go with Lidge.

Storen underwent an MRI earlier this week which revealed no structural issues, but he isn't expected to resume throwing until Tuesday or Wednesday. There just might not be enough time for him to get ready at this point. Johnson said his preference would be to use Brad Lidge and Henry Rodriguez in the closer role, which allows Tyler Clippard to continue to pitch in a set-up capacity.

What do we have on Henry Rodriguez, other than his heat is enough to deserve the obvious knickname?

RHP Henry Rodriguez is going to move to the closer's role while RHP Drew Storen is out. The Nationals placed Storen on the disabled list late in spring training due to elbow inflammation. The team's not sure when he'll be back, but Rodriguez's fastballs are pushing 100 mph. He's also got a back-breaking curve.
