  • it must suck to be the smart guy in your league

in one of my leagues, an unnamed other member who also runs an online forum that rhymes with "schmarjbullpen" offered to trade for my $10 Tyler Clippard, whom I was not strongly considering keeping but now I probably will. I am not naming him specifically because I don't want him to start pretending to try to trade for my $12 Darwin Barney or $8 Skip Schumaker and confusing me any further.

In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

I have no idea, although I will say that according to the Mastersball projections, even without any theoretical injuries, they had him projected to be worth $13. I hadn't really looked at him before that. Actually, they have Venters and Clippard as two of the top ten values in the league as far as ERA component goes... huh.

Anytime Jason offers you a trade start holding on to your shorts.
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

Frankly, Clippard is only earning that if he gets enough saves. I have my reservations with him because he's thrown more pitches than any other reliever over the past two seasons, but I have enough bargains on my team to take the chance with him.

If I know someone watches what I do I might offer them a trade of a player I'm not keeping for a player I want them to keep but I'm not sure they will. Worst case scenerio they accept the trade and you don't keep the player you traded for. But it makes them think that player is worth keeping. Works when dealing with scarce markets in keeper leagues.
