That being said, Broxton will likely get the nod until he blows it. My guess would be May 10th for the switch.
Is there that many? Detroit does not impress me to that level.

They're not the 1998 Yankees, but if you don't think they're "good," you have a strange idea of what "good" means.

        KC Star Article

From yesterday, but I don't see it mentioned on the forum. Looks like Yost has some semi-legit reasons to go with a platoon at closer. Whether he can keep one of Broxton, Crow, and Holland properly rested for every game and still win a few games remains to be seen. Yeah, I'm not sure if the Royals will have save situations for 3-4 straight days either.

...Yost said Broxton will probably be limited to one-inning outings and is unlikely, at least initially, to pitch more than two consecutive days. That means he will be limited in any assigned role.

“If you stick solidly to a seventh-inning guy, an eighth-inning guy and a ninth-inning guy,” Yost said, “then every time there’s a save situation, those guys pitch every day. All of a sudden, they’ve pitched three and four days in a row, and you run into trouble.

“Even if they all pitch two or three days in a row, you start to run into trouble. But if you’ve got multiple options down there, you can rest guys and keep them strong and in position where they can succeed.” ...

So if Broxton gets the first save, and Crow/Holland get the one on the second consecutive day, that means he gets 95% of KC's saves.............until he loses the gig. So is the over/under set somewhere between 5 and 10????

Less than 10-1 to win it all. A great team would be less than 3-2. I would put the Tigers at Competitive, which means odds on to win the dvision (in this case), but not favored to advance in post season.

Used as described, he might last the season. In a holds league, he is not going to be the most valuable asset.

We weren't talking about great, we were talking about good. You objected to cavebird's labeling of the Tigers as good. You can't redefine the debate now.

No way Broxton lasts the season, if he's effective he's traded, if not he's replaced.

Why wouldn't the Tigers be favored to advance in the post season? They did last year and then went out and added Prince Fielder.

Any insight as to whether Soria will close in 2013? My rebuilding team has been offered him.

He has a large team option after the season, tough call whether it will be exercised or not but my guess is they won't and then will try to get him back cheaper but may lose him in the process.

I'd steer clear of trading for him.

He might end up in Boston, Texas, Toronto, New York, Oakland, Minnesota. Don't sell the farm for him but he's an interesting piece for a dumper.

Are we assuming Holland will close if/when Broxton is traded? His YTD numbers arent fantastic other than the k rate but after the awful start to the season he had, he's put up some really nice stats. Herrera and Crow look like the #2 and #3 options behind Holland but I might still toss a buck at one or both of them just to see what happens.

I am. 2.37 ERA (almost doubled with the rough outing in LA Sunday) 30 1/3 IP 44 K 17 BB with a heavy GB Mix (very good YTD #'s and obscene #'s since DL stint) and he was given a trial last year.
