I hate drafts after the season starts. Part of the fun of the draft is deciding who will be the starters and how much to pay.

I feel the same. Before rosters are set, you actually have to do some work.

Ex-Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton followed with a one-two-three seventh that included two strikeouts while throwing 10 of 12 pitches for strikes.
“He was throwing 95-97 (mph) today with an 89-mph slider,” Yost said. “That’s overpowering stuff. Plus, he’s commanding the ball down in the zone and moving it in and out. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

Keep Baker. I forgot Yost was the KC manager. He'll take the "experienced closer" and stick with him for far, far longer than he should...assuming Broxton actually sucks. He may get lucky and Broxton will be good again.

Interesting break down in my AL league, filled with people way sharper than I am.... I am sooo an NL guy, but my team should put up a good fight this year I hope.

Holland $15, Broxton $10, Crow $3. The 2 high dollar available closers went Mo $37, and Valverde $31.

His trade value is dramatically increased if he succeeds in the role and is just about the same if he fails in the role. The Royals would be fools to use Holland as their closer before trying Broxton out.

Well, when the scouting reports were indicating that Broxton was a hot mess, there was a lot of incentive for them to let him work in lower leverage situations and sort himself out first. No need to let him find himself in the closer role when Holland could do it just fine.

But now it seems that Broxton's stuff has stabilized (from what I have heard) and if that's the case, then I think you're right that he'll be the guy unless he takes the job and chokes on it.

There is only one good team in the AL Central. The Royals probably aren't there yet (lot at that rotation) but they have tons of young talent and stranger things have happened. (The Braves weren't "there yet" in 1991 until they were.) I don't think the Royals would be fools to have the pitcher who would be best in the role, be the guy in the role. That being said, Broxton will likely get the nod until he blows it. My guess would be May 10th for the switch.
