  • AL-Only Trade Help

    10 Team AL-Only/Auction/Keeper league ($280 cap)

I trade Jordan Walden $7 (year two)
    for
Brandon Morrow $16 (needs to be extended or can keep him for one more year at $16)
    Alexi Ogando $7 (year two)

this would give me a staff of (out of 10 pitching spots):
    CJ Wilson $1
    Ricky Romero $7
    Max Scherzer $15
    Neftali Feliz $10
    Morrow $16
    Ogando $6

not to bad for a AL only team...lots of K's, wins and decent era. if morrow takes the next step i could have a beast of a staff..

there are next to no closers in the auction:
    Mo
    Bailey
    Oak Closers candidates
    and other riskier options

so its thin on closers...I would punt saves (or alteast go after set up men who could take over as closer) early on and hope my staff racks up enough K's that I can trade some later on. should I trade away a couple of years of walden for one year of morrow and the potential of ogando? any advice would help me out. thanks in advance

I don't like punting categories before the season starts, especially if your league has a lot of dump trades (which make the point totals needed to finish in the money higher, which puts people getting 0 or 1 in one or more categories at a disadvantage).

Also remember that closing jobs are volatile for the most part, and there will be chances to acquire people who don't start getting saves until a month or more in. Even in "only" leagues. That being said, I think Walden keeps the job all year and gravitates toward the elite at the position.

I also don't like Ogando that much for this year. It will take multiple injuries to get him into the rotation or the closer role.

I like Morrow but I like Walden for multiple years better than Morrow for one.

Don't do the deal, don't punt saves, and in the auction speculate on some folks who you think have a chance to usurp closer roles.

I'd far rather have Walden given your keeper SPs already, Ogando's limited role, and cost/price. $40 for your 5 keeper pitchers is plenty sweet.
I'm just here for the baseball.

Hold onto to Walden. He's a much better value than Morrow and also has a better contract (plus he fills a need on your team)

            Don't do it

Neither of those guys you are trading for are much of a value if any at all. Walden is probably a $12-17 value in your league I would guess. The closer situation in the AL is a mess. You need to get similar value back.

I like your team a lot better with those 4 you have and Walden. Pick up another starter or two with upside and fill in with some good K,era, whip relief pitchers like Holland, Benoit or Robertson.

Much obliged for all the feedback...I just needed to hear it from other people that I shouldn't do this deal. Thanks again penners.
