  • Winter Waiver Wire

My league is a 12-team, NL-only, 40 man (starting 25) rosters with a $280 cap. In January, we cut 15 and have a winter waiver wire, which is mostly garbage, but there were a few interesting tidbits on there.

One name that intrigued me was Rubby De La Rosa at $3. I know he had TJ last summer, and would not be a 2012 impact player, but he might be a nice stash at $3. But, I wasn't really sure about tying up $3 of my auction budget on a guy I know is not helping me at all this year. That being said, I have a pretty solid pitching staff going in: Hanson, Latos, Bumgarner, Volquez, Capuano, Narveson, as well as possible MR guys like Belisle, Masset, Samardzija that are at least under consideration. So, my question is whether given that staff, making a claim on a $3 De La Rosa makes sense.

Other options that I noticed were: $5 Bastardo, $4 McLouth, $2 Resop, $1 Ross, $5 Jose Ceda, $2 Edward Salcedo, $1 Jonathan Singleton (who would be lost going into 2013 if not traded, with the Astros moving to the AL).

Of course, I can also claim nobody. No harm in that. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Tough one, but looking at Cots I think you let him go but grab him in reserve draft:
    Kershaw (arb elig)
    Billingsley signed
    Lilly (signed through '13)
    Capuano (signed through '13)
    Harang (signed through '13)

Bastardo looks pretty intriguing at $5, but you do have good MR options.
I'm just here for the baseball.
