is he turning into a Quadruple-A player? He seems to do very well in the minors, but a .236 career BA won't cut it in the majors.

yep. dan o'dowd said he'll get another shot at third base if he makes baseball his first priority from the start of the winter until the end of it, or some such thing. i'm not sure why he deserves another chance, but it looks like the rox are in a holding pattern this year, and would rather not commit money to a real third baseman.

i wouldn't mind seeing colorado take a flier on kyle mcclellan. he was a pretty decent starter last season before he tired out.

I think the Pirates will keep Meek around. I do expect them to non-tender Ohlendorf and Jose Veras.

I think Veras is a borderliner....he had a solid enough season, and you gotta love 79 Ks in 71 IP.

Good call on Ohlendorf, he's a no-brainer. Not sure how I missed him.

Huntington hates to spend money on pitching. Meek might be cheaper because he missed so much time. The Pirates are ready to move guys like Hughes, Watson, Grilli into the bullpen for the whole year. Maybe Leroux, too, if he's not a starter.

I'm not so sure that either Dodger will get the axe. Loney probably should but his second half might have saved him. Hopefully that makes him more attractive trade bait rather than a starter in 2k12 again.

Who else in baseball is dumb enough to want Loney as their starting 1st baseman? The Dodgers are the only schmucks who seem to not know Loney ain't worth the money they're paying him (and hasn't been for a while). If they manage to keep him yet again, I will be baffled. He should be a $500K defensive specialist back-up in the big leagues at this point. Trade bait? I just don't see it.

Kuo is undergoing elbow surgery again this week.

Here's what I found on LA Times.com:
"[The Dodgers] estimate this procedure will prevent Kuo from throwing for the next six to eight weeks, which would put him past the Dec. 12 deadline when teams must tender contracts to players –- like Kuo –- who are eligible for arbitration.

Kuo, 30, was unlikely to be tendered a contract by the Dodgers anyway. He is coming off his worst season (9.00 earned-run average), when for the second time in his career he battled an anxiety disorder.

Still, he worked so hard to come back from his last surgery –- and was so dominant in 2010 –- that the Dodgers may yet offer him some contract after the Dec. 12 deadline passes and he becomes a free agent."


So perhaps they non-tender him with an under the table agreement that they're gonna re-sign him for less?

If I were running the Rays and Loney was non-tendered, I jump all over him. I like what he did in the final 10 weeks of the season.

I've always liked him -- needs the right type of park to work in though
