Wow, what a mess. The Cubs told him on July 22, and as a result he didn't "feel right" trading anyone at the deadline. So they missed a chance to unload some guys and get started on their future because they couldn't figure out their GM situation.
Hendry, 56, said Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts notified him July 22 that he wouldn't be retained. He indicated that was one factor in deciding not to trade away veteran players at the deadline, figuring he should leave those decisions to his successor.Comment

If todays lineup is part of Jim Hendrys legacy then what a disaster he was. If that is true, Ricketts must be a horrible owner as you'd think he was keeping tabs on how trade talks were going in order to potentially dump some of the bad contracts and would have been the one to ok how much money the Cubs would be willing to kick in.Originally posted by Sharky View PostComment

Hendry had quite a Bavasi-like track record, especially in recent years. Loads of horrible contracts and busted prospects/draft picks.
