  • Uggla's Streak

32 games after tonight's HR, good enough for 23rd all-time.

Is this the most unlikely hitting streak in MLB history?

  • #2
Yea, it is unreal. I traded Jose Altuve to B-Fly in our keeper league to get Uggla's final year as I make a push for the league title

Haven't seen the definitive article describing why this is impossible, but yes it is impossible.

My hunch is that some hitting guru just hit the lottery?

And Uggla was hitting around .165 when his started, which is silly even granting that he's not that bad,

But his streak was as a rookie, and he ended up rookie of the year no less (and hit .300 that season). So in hindsight, sure, I agree. But if you were a baseball fan in 1987, year of the hitter, and one of the top prospects in baseball had a 34-game streak, it was par for the course that year.

But Uggla has so many things going against him here that we already know -- he's a slugger; he whiffs a lot; he's a .240-ish career hitter; he was in a slump of epic proportions; and he was hitting an unbelievable .165 when it started.

Uggla 2-for-3 so far tonight, one of them a homer. The streak is now 33. Incredible!

And you can thank me when (and if) you win the RJEL...as well as your patience. He is what he is...30 HR's 100 RBI every year. He just happens to be getting all of his hits for the season in one fell swoop.

Still hitting only .229, took a chance on him in May and he's still hitting under .170 in extra-base hits (-HR) + BB to PA ratio (Great metric that judges best non dominate HR hitters like Gwynn or Helton - closer to runs above replacment) His Bombs are big and 26 he isn't just a 30 hr guy this year closer to 40 with 33 games and counting. I must say I love a streak and how is Rose not in hall of fame (oops wrong forum)

FYI, I dealt for Adam Dunn in my 'big' redraft league. That hasn't worked out for me!

how many 1-4 games has he had in the streak?

looks like eleven 1-for-4, one 2-for-8, four 1-for-5, and one 1-for-6.

In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.
