  • Konerko a value for next year?

12 team AL only keeper w/obp

Is Konerko worth $27 for next year?

Miggy went for $37 a few years ago and Tex $31 and they will be back in the draft for 2012. Agon went for $43 this year. I am playing for next year, but was wondering because an owner is looking to get something for him and he is $22 with an expiring contact and $5 can be added for next year to the team he is traded to.

Also, an owner has a $15 Cuddyer with an expiring contract and $5 could be added to him if he is traded to make him $20 for next year.

Would any of these 2 be enough of a value for me to go after.

I traded and got Hosmer and he's $10 for the next 3 years at 1st, so Konerko would fill my CI spot or I can wait and pay for Tex or Miggy next year because I will lack pop going in.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

For me, both are at their ceiling. Little to no profit there, especially with any regression. You can always throw Konerko out early and bid him up to 26 next year.

    Ottawa Triple Eh's | P.I.M.P.S. | 14 team keep forever
    Champions 16,21 | Runner up 17,19-20

The FOS (retired) | MTARBL | 12 team AL 5x5
    Champions 01,05,17 | Runner up 13-15,20

In cases this close to their value, I generally don't keep the player, as I'd rather have the auction flexibility, and I like to avoid the admittedly minuscule risk of player injury in the time period between when keepers are due and the auction.

However, two factors can make me go against this general rule--proven reliability coupled with auction scarcity. I might keep either or both of these guys if I felt that CI would be unusually thin in the auction, and if I felt both of these guys were among the safest options available. In a normal auction year, I would prefer several CI options in the AL, so barring a very unusual auction, I'd throw these guys back.

With both Miggy and Tex back in the auction next year, you might want the flexibility. But what are you trading? If you're giving up something minor, it might be worth trading for Konerko even if you don't keep him. Go through the off-season and see what happens with the option of keeping him.

That is what I would do if they were already under contract for next year, but in our league, when you trade for a player in the final year of their contract and extend them 1 yr, you have to take them in the following year unless you trade them to someone else who would have to take them in.

I will probably pass on both guys unless as I take a closer look and CI is really thin.

          Thanks

How about Nick Swisher at $17 for next year. Yankees have an option for him and I'm thinking they'd probably pick it up for only $10M
