The Padres have gone through a bunch of first basemen this year, but I haven't really seen any talk about the one guy who's actually been consistently decent (super small sample size of course). Any chance he stays relevant for a while?

In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.
It all depends what happens at the trade deadline. The Padres are a fluid situation right now in terms of personnel. he could well end up play every game from here on out and hitting 4th or 5th and he could find himself back at AAA. Wait a week to see what happens and ask again (how's that for a magic 8 ball answer)
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

if you're in an NL-only league, you might want to check this guy out. since I asked about him on Tuesday, he's gone 4 for 6 with 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, and a SB (and three walks if you care about OBP). he's hitting .329/.372/.616 in 73 at bats.
on the other hand, if you need any more proof of the small sample size concept: in away games, he's hitting .245/.245/.396 in 53 at bats. in home games at Petco, he's 11 for 20 with all four of his homers. I have no idea what that means.

man, I feel like Hammer and his Bourgeois man-crush, but...
over the last 30 days: 92 PA, .393/.446/.624, 4 HR, 18 R, 26 RBI, 7 SB.

dont fight it......
athough the Dynamo has sucked of late.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

I am right there with you. I look at this boxscore daily. As a Padre fan I find myself say "Rizzo who?". The sad thing is that they probably wont give Guzman a serious look because of Rizzo. It is sad too because the Padres have had succes with guys like this before. The one this reminds me of is Phil Nevin. While he was a prized prospect when he was drafted he was a nobody when he came to the Padres. He proceeded to turn into a very good offensive player for a number of years. Of course, that was probably aided by performance enhancers, but it still reminds me of Guzman.
He has shown he can hit. With as bad as the Padres offense has been you would think they would welcome his bat.
Picked him up last week. The steals are a very pleasant surprise. Probably has as many steals in the last 7 days as anyone on my team. i'd like to thank the astros for finally sending down brett wallace so i could finally get some real production from this position.

I had to choose between Guzman or J.D. Martinez to replace Daniel Murphy in my Utility spot, I thought I was choosing Guzman's power and run production over the better chance of steals from Martinez, turns out I got the best of both worlds with Guzman and the Murphy injury was a blessing in disguise because both Guzman and Martinez are hotter than Murphy was.
Some people say winning isn't everything. I say those people never won anything.
