    Now in first place in the NL Central Division

    The Pittsburgh Pirates! Man that felt good to say.

    Pittsburgh 48-43 .5274
    Milwaukee 49-44 .5268
    St Louis 49-44 .5268

    Even if only for one day. It's nice to hear people actually talking about the Pirates chances instead of how many games before they are mathematically eliminated. Even if they don't win the division at least Pirates fans can enjoy some meaningful second half baseball for the first time in years. Along with Cincinnati, this may end up being the closest four team race in baseball this year.

    Love the city, love the fact that these long-suffering fans - several great ones are longtime RJers - are at least "in the game." They deserve it. Imagine if the Pirates win that division.


    The playoffs would be rocking, at a great park.

        Is this the Matrix? Did the computer programmers screw up? Am i going to wake up to find out this is only a dream? Is MLB doing a real Major League movie?

        I don't know that they will keep it together, but these starting pitchers have been great and I have to say Hurdle has made a real difference here. I hope they can hang in it and we get to see some meaningful Sept baseball. The Pirates have not been in spitting distance since 97, the summer after my Jr year of HS. I am now married with 3 kids, it has been a while.

          I hope some Pittsburgh fans actually go to the games, as that park would be a lot nicer with some people in it

            That 1997 team couldn't keep it up, finishing 79-83.

            SP rotation, all age 24-27: Esteban Loaiza, Jon Lieber, Jason Schmidt, Francisco Cordova, Steve Cooke (they started all but 5 games).
            Bullpen led by closer Rich Loiselle, Marc Wilkins, Matt Ruebel, Ricardo Rincon, and Clint Sadowsky. All of those guys were between 24 and 27, too. Strangely, none of the 21 pitchers to appear that year for the Pirates had reached the age of 30.

            At a glance, I think only Elmer Dessens was still in the majors last year.

            Infield: C Jason Kendall, 1B split between Kevin Young and Mark Johnson, 2B Tony Womack, 3B Joe Randa, SS Kevin Polcovich and a cast of thousands, LF Al Martin, CF Jermaine Allensworth, RF Jose Guillen.
            Other key subs: INF Dale Sveum, OF Mark Smith, OF Turner Ward, INF Kevin Elster.

                I loved that team, not that they were any good, but because they were kind of int and they were a lot of fun. My friends and I made homemade Pirate jereseys and between us and another group of guys that went to the games that did the same thing we had most of the team. We would sit in right center at most games. We loved Turner Ward. For your information my jeresey...Kevin Polcovich, good times is right.

                          Pittsburgh back in the lead by a few percentage points. The Pirates got their 50th win Monday and can best last years total with 8 more. I'm really interested to see what GM Neal Huntington does at the trade deadline this year since the Pirates are going to be buyers for the first time in awhile.

                            I am a conflicted man this season. I grew up an Angels and Dodgers fan and so I will always retain some loyalty there. I currently live in the Bay Area and so I support the A's and Giants on a daily basis. But, I find myself rooting for the Pirates to make the playoffs this season.

                              Pirates shut out the #1 scoring team in the NL (Reds 1-0) for the second straight game!

                              I'll be at the Wednesday afternoon game at PNC Park. Looks to be another low scoring game with Cueto vs. Karstens.
