Acquiring Carlos Pena

Looking at moving Polanco 12 for Carlos Pena 17

PRO
- I have a FIFTEEN-pt lead on 3rd place in AVG (2nd in a .279 to .277 to .262 race)
- I am 10th in HR, 10 more HR would give me 3 more pts, plus room to move up in RBI/R.
- Polanco is hitting .219 since April. Still could be a good keeper when healthy, but all he gives you is (a lot of) AVG and that's the one thing I don't need.
- Pena .304 xBA in last 31 days, with 10 HR and a .245 real AVG that wouldn't hurt me at all

CON
- I'm 20 pts out, and Polanco could be a keeper
- if Pena gets dealt to AL, I get 17 FAAB $$ (we start with $50), and that alone only gets me to 2nd at the moment (I may lose $25 K-Rod as well). Maybe I can trade in the Pena $$ for what's behind the door and get a car - or maybe I get a goat.

I'm leaning in favor, only in these special circumstances of Pena's AVG not scaring me, his HR are a big help, and Polanco is hurting, old, and not useful for me this year.

Have I convinced anyone?

Polanco is not a keeper at $12, I own him in my 13 team NL only at $12 and I haven't once considered him a keeper. If that's what is holding you back then make the trade.

Well, a $15 player so far in 12-team NL 5x5, but if he can't stay healthy then yeah, maybe not a 2012 keeper.
Of course, perception is reality, and I got him for $12 this year....

In a lot of leagues I'd much rather have Polanco anyway. It's like you'd have to make up the scenario that is my team to say, "Oh, in THAT CASE.."

Can't stay healthy and next year he'll be another year older. Guys like Polanco are very useful but not really as a keeper. All I'm saying is that if the power that Pena brings helps you then don't think twice about the possible keeper value of Polanco.

Also, he's a $15 player because of his insanely hot start in April. What is his dollar value from May to now?

I have owned Pena in AL leagues in the past and own Polanco now. Pena will go COLD real cold soon. The question is did you miss the hot streak or can you get the tail of it. Tough question, ultimately, I assume Polanco is not a hot commodity to move to a dumper so buying high on Pena may not be the worst thing in the world. You need the power and he certainly is a power guy. You are right though Pena seems like a guy that can get moved. I say take the chance.

Con -- you're buying Pena at his peak and as Schlesinj said, COLD. Pena is all boom or bust and he'll hit .160 for 5 weeks before going on another binge around August.
