  • 3 pitch walk determines outcome of game

With one out in the 5th inning tonight Cameron Maybin took first on a 3-2 count tonight vs. the Mariners and ended up scoring. No one caught the mistake. Phil Cuzzi was the home plate umpire (wasn't using "clicker" to keep track of balls and strikes). Video replays clearly showed that Maybin only took three balls. The Padres won the game 1-0.

    I'm dumbfounded.

How do the pitcher and catcher not notice?

and the manager and the coaches.

      Weird.

that said, the missed call did not determine the outcome of the game.
The Mariners not scoring any runs in 9 innings had at least a little bit to do with the outcome.
The Mariners, I assume, also were permitted under MLB rules to prevent the false baserunner from scoring.

It's not like all they had to do was hold the other team scoreless for 9 IP, then they get a shiny "W" belt buckle for the achievement......

Nor the manager, nor the coaches, nor the official scorer for the Mariners...you would think at this level of baseball they would have people checking up on such things.
