Ok, I'll bite. Why is it the humidor and not the shitty cold weather?

I wonder if it is having an impact that is not uniform. In other words, are teams like the Padres (or their ballpark) affected more than say the Orioles (Camden Yards)? There has to be some angle to exploit here.

Should revisit this in another month or so, a little early to make conclusions.

Statistically it's actually not. You may be thinking from the concept of individual players which it's certainly too early. But the amount of data across all plays and all games is plenty to assess things like the distance the ball is travelling. The models account for weather so we dont really need to wait for that. Basically we have enough information to make the conclusions discussed above and others. It's not too early.

Alright, well anyway it would be interesting to look at this again a month from now and see if there are changes.

Also, I thought the humidors were intended to even out effects across all teams. That would mean that certain parks (eg. SF) would see an offensive benefit from the humidor while in others it would be suppressed. Concluding that the humidor has had a "huge" impact on scoring reduction implies that there is a massive impact in previously hitting friendly non humidor parks.

Parks with humidors in 2021 and 2022 have seen a 0.5% decrease (2 feet) in the average distance of Barrels in the first 3 weeks of April compared to same dates last year

Parks with humidors introduced in 2022 have seen a 1.5% decrease (5.8 feet) in the average distance of Barrels in the first 3 weeks of April compared to same dates last year when humidor wasn't present

Additionally, the home run rate for April is a strong leading indicator for how the season plays out. The April HR/Contact ((HR/(AB-K)) has been within 4.4-8.1% of the final season rate.

I've said this for a week+ now, but I'd take the heavy under on the league hitting 5250 homers this year.

Expanded rosters and way more relievers pitching probably play a big role, too.

I believe the baseballs are to blame. Seems like the humidor is having a greater effect than last year because the balls are different. I bet they start using different balls that produce more offense very soon, unless they simply can't produce enough balls. Same as last year.
Larry David was once being heckled, long before any success. Heckler says "I'm taking my dog over to fuck your mother, weekly." Larry responds "I hate to tell you this, but your dog isn't liking it."
