Umpires can make mistakes but this guy had a long, slow look at the play and still made a horrendous call. He looked right at the guy scoring, the tag came seconds later and he called him out. This was no bang - bang play. This is the kind of play that makes people question the integrity of the game.Comment

the only thing I can see happening is he followed the initial swipe of the glove and took his eyes off the plate so he saw the 2nd swipe/tag on Ruggiano after he had already taken his leg off the plate. That said, if he didn't call out after the first swipe of the glove, his eyes should have been on the plate. He's a minor league relief ump; we saw why tonight.Comment
