  • 2k11 MLB trade rumors

Reds GM Walt Jocketty has denied trade talks with the Mets and Padres, for Reyes and Ludwick.

I think the Reds will make a big move or two. Lots of young talent and a couple of holes that need to be filled.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

A month ago, I wouldn't have figured that the Reds would be dealing. Now, I'm not so sure that they won't make a Big Deal, and they'll probably make a Medium Deal. As often as they've blathered about building from within and playing for the long-term, I think they'd want to lock up Reyes with a major deal before trading for him. The problem is that (a) I'm not sure Reyes wants to not go on the free agent market, (b) I'm not sure if he wants to go to Cincinnati, and (c) his medical history does not inspire confidence (but then again, with a competent medical staff...).

Ludwick wouldn't be a bad pickup--his power would play well at the GASP--but somehow I think that if they go for someone, it'll be someone better, perhaps with an expiring contract.

The other side of the equation is what they would give up. The organization hasn't spent a lot of time ballyhooing their prospects to the baseball world, but they certainly have pumped them up for local consumption. There could be a public relations problem, NOT that this should be a major consideration, but if they deal Alonso in particular, some fans will be upset.

IMO the Reds would be better off resolving their LF situation by dumping Lewis, benching or trading Gomes, bringing up Frazier and Alonso, and let those two fight it out with Heisey for the job. This could work because Alonso can back up Votto while Frazier backs up Rolen and Phillips.

Shortstop? There are a lot of options out there, but other than Reyes, I wonder if any are really worth the price.

It'd be a horrible deal for the Braves. Beachy is kindof a badass while Quentin is an atrocious defender with injury issues. I'm all for the Braves dealing off some surplus pitching for an offensive upgrade, but this seems like a bad idea. I think they can find much better players (for much cheaper) than Quentin.

Please, God, let my Pirates resist the perennial urge to deal veterans for garbage, unless the veteran dealt is Overbay.

I think they realize that they need to tread carefully. Yes, if anyone wants Overbay's carcass, they can have them, with Jones playing 1B and Presley/Diaz/Tabata/Paul playing the corner spots. And honestly, they could probably deal Diaz and Doumit/Snyder if anyone would take them.

While the Pirates could conceivably trade Hanrahan based on his perceived market value, I don't think they'll do it. Obviously if the Yankees offered Montero and Banuelos you'd have to think about it, but at this point I think he's sticking around. And really, who else do they have to deal? Maholm, maybe, but it's the same thing. Unless they are getting premium level talent, it's not worth the short-term hit they'd take with everyone jumping off the bandwagon.

Honestly, if they were smart, they'd see if they could go the other way and flip Presley and D'Arnaud for veterans before they turn into pumpkins

Perceived value on Hanrahan? It would seem that he has real value and would help anyone in the race who needs a closer or late inning set up man. Now I hope they do not deal him, but they should get something nice should they decide to.

Last year he had a 2.68 xFIP, this year is 2.64. That's his real value, but his shiny 1.37 ERA and perfect saves record probably make him seem even more valuable. He's not quite as good as Bell but he might be the 2nd best RP that could be available (over Soria, K-Rod, etc)

                  Colby Rasmus for Jeremy Hellickson?

I'd doubt TB does something like this, but on paper, it kinda makes some sense.

So Rasmus is struggling this year, he wants out, the Cards want to deal him and they will 'accept' Hellickson? Why not call the Nats and ask for Strasburg & Harper? I would think Rasmus' value has be low given everyone knows the Cards want him gone.

Upton is heading into his final arbitration year -- is he a goner in TB?

Leo Nunez is arbitration eligible and the Marlins will probably choose to not pay his salary. He should be traded in the next 2 weeks. I cant pick between Cishek and Dunn as his potential replacement, but I'm leaning Cishek.

I heard a short report today about potential for Ubaldo to the Yanks. Who'd go to Colorado in that deal?
I'm just here for the baseball.
