I find it difficult to reconcile why i love Darvish but am meh on Scherzer. Must be recency bias. Need to do some internal reflecting.

Round 1- my top 8 does not include Cole, but includes both deGrom and Story. When they were both on the table I had a tough choice. This was about an hour before the Arenado trade broke. I picked deGrom since I did have him valued higher, even though I wasn't sure. Kinda dodged a bullet there.

From a quick look 2018/2019 Verlander was a lot better than 2020 Scherzer.

Ah, if the 2020 stats are the issue I’m in on Scherzer for sure. Small sample to make any negative judgement and he is still striking over over 12/9ip so the stuff is still there

Others may have other concerns, it just appeared to me Verlander was far superior for the years noted. Scherzers whip was 1.38 if I recall vs. .80 or thereabout for Verlander. Small sample size noted

My buddy who's an Astros fan was so confident in Verlander that he bet me $100 he'd finish with a higher WAR during his 2-year contract extension than Kyle Hendricks would during his 4-year extension. Easy money.

My point was that 2020 stars mean very little, so bringing up a 1.38 WHIP isn’t really relevant

I thought you were trying to understand why Scherzer wasn't rated as highly as Verlander was in previous years? I believe his 1.38 whip in his 12 starts of 2020 is probably relevant to that.
