A few notes from game 1:

The Nationals have won 17 of their last 19 games.

It was Gerrit Cole's first loss since May 22.

Juan Soto became the first left-handed batter to hit an opposite field home run (417 feet) onto the train tracks at Minute Maid Park.

Youngest players to hit a home run in the World Series:

      Andruw Jones - 19 years, 180 days
      Miguel Cabrera - 20 years, 189 days
      Mickey Mantle - 20 years, 351 days
      Juan Soto - 20 years, 362 days

Even Fernando Rodney is contributing (scoreless inning) for the Nats.

The Astros tonight, issued their first intentional walk.....of the entire season.....to Juan Soto. Of course he came around to score.

news flash: they're GIVING money away in this Series

I can walk away now, and even if the Nats lose the Series I still win money.

or - just spitballing - I can risk my guaranteed $3.30 profit and keep playing!

this is entertaining, as long as you only risk less than 1 pct of your weekly paycheck

Where did you come up with the 1% figure?

                  Fun facts:

The 5 earned runs given up by Gerrit Cole against the Nationals in game 1 were as many as he had given up in his previous 8 games (all wins) combined!

On May 23 the Nationals were 19-31 (.380 win pct.) and Gerrit Cole was 4-5 with a 4.11 ERA.

After May 23 the Nationals went 74-38 (.661 win pct.) and Gerrit Cole went 16-0 with a 1.78 ERA over the remainder of the regular season.

BTW, the Astros will lose the DH when they play the next 2 or 3 games at Washington. So, defensive butcher Yordan Alvarez will either become a bench bat or a very entertaining outfielder.

Nationals DH Howie Kendrick to the bench for game 3.

If the Nationals win game 3, they would become the first team to win 9 consecutive games in a single postseason.

Only three teams have lost the first two games of the WS at home and gone on to win the title. Last team was the 1996 Yankees.

nice job by the Nats in this loss to get enough runners on tonight to force the Astros to use so much of their 'pen in Game 3 - while giving their own key guys another night of rest as Games 4 and 5 go the next night.

that may turn up big in Game 4 or 5 - or both.
