Harper misplay his hand? If the dodgers really offered a 2 yr 40+ mill per year as reported, awesome team, chance to get 2 WS rings and leverage of 2 mvp type years he should have been able to land a bigger contract. Trout is a monster. Cool he has the biggest contract rather than someone who could be nitpicked. Why should he be bothered he will never play in a world series. Trout's hitting is more consistent, he plays the OF well, and on the surface appears to be a better human being (lower odds for controversy in the future). He is the safer bet for a contract like this.

One would expect that this contract will help the Angels in their stadium pursuits (having a likely HoF player locked in for 12 more years makes it feel like attendance will be solid for a while). Hopefully it does not hinder the Angels' financial situation enough to keep them from fielding and maintaining a World Series caliber roster.
