you realize he plays for the Buckos, right?

The Pirates are 22-24, which is mediocre rather than pathetic. That may seem like faint praise, but hey, it's an upgrade!

Imagine how well Doumit could be doing if he was (a) playing regularly and (b) not having to hit behind Lyle Overbay and his circa .230 BA.

And you will note that I'm not trying to explain. It simply is.

.... because I am a better defensive catcher than him?

... because he's made of glass and can't catch every day?

In all honesty he's been much better than expected (offensively AND defensively) and I would have expected the Buccos to play him and showcase him so they could trade him.

When it comes to catchers, defense and chemistry with pitchers matters much more than offense in most cases.

I'm curious what his non-PH stats are this year. I know a good bit of his damage (3 HR) was done off the bench.

Doumit's not as bad this year behind the plate as he's been in the past but apparently, at least in management's minds) Snyder is far superior at handling the staff and defensively in general.

I've seen enough of Doumit in the 8 years or whatever to know that if he was playing every day he's be grounding out to 2nd more often than not, and that's if he could stay healthy for 2 weeks.

This. And also but what JC said. Aside from being a bad defensive catcher, he is exposed as a regular player. He looks good in a 250-300 AB role, but he declines when he plays everyday. Plus he's hurt all the time.

I'm watching the Mets-Pirates and Snyder can't catch a ball. He had 2 passed balls, one of which allowed a run to score and the other put men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out (and Morton was lucky to get out of the inning after that). So, this raises a question for me: how awful is Doumit behind the plate that he can't take a job from Snyder?

On a random side note: this is the first time I've seen Morton pitch (despite having picked him up off the waiver wire a few weeks ago). He has a nasty slider. If he could get some offense, he looks like he could be a solid pitcher. Tough to say after watching an inning or two but I'm impressed with what I see.
