At the risk of piling on, I'd run and do this latest deal so fast, it'd make Beetlejuice's head spin even more. McDonald's the only really good keeper in that list. Espinosa is OK, but has major OBP issues. Jay's a part-time player who gets PT only when others are hurt - and probably falls behind Craig on the 4th OF list when Freese is healthy. You get three very good players back.
I'm just here for the baseball.

If you have a team that's not in the cellar and looking to dump, why are you counting points on May 23rd? Between injuries, underperformance, other trades/pickups etc., looking at the standings after six weeks and thinking you can't compete is a fool's game. You should play to win every year, and if you have a competitive team, you should make any move you can to improve.

NL league or not, I just can't understand why you'd toss away such a lopsided trade in your favor because of Jon Jay. This epitomizes overthinking.

I'd go back to that guy, hat in hand, and say you'll do it.

Jon Jay's definitely not the sticking point. I think he has definite value both this year and in the future so I don't consider him pure filler, but it's more about Espinosa. A $5 switch-hitting middle infielder who can get you double digit steals and homers is pretty hard to come by. That doesn't mean I consider him untouchable, just that I would like to get at least one stud as part of any deal. Drew, Wandy, and Hart are all good players and upgrades from the players they're being traded for, I just think I could get more.

No need to ask for help on this one, this one is an absolute no brainer. Pull the trigger!

Both Hart and Jay are taking this discussion to heart - Hart with 2 jacks and a steal and Jay counters with a hit and steal of his own in his first at-bat.

I might be a little gunshy based on a trade I made last year. Sent a $5 Ike Davis to get David Wright and it did jack squat for me in the standings. Now I'm watching Davis' power stroke continue to evolve on someone else's team and regretting the move.

Okay Corey Hart, I get it, you're better than I thought you were.

Hart with 3 bombs. I imagined the other guy has come off his medication and raken Hart off the table.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

3 HRs, 7 RBIs for Hart. If this guy makes the deal with you now, he'll be strung up by his toes and kicked in the face by the rest of the league.

Nah, Jay's 1.000 OBP for the day is vastly superior to Hart's .800

another HR and 2 RBI for Hart. At this point this is just rubbing it in. At this rate, this may become a classic thread. BTW, your avatar has a great rack.

If the deal is still out there, take it.

Please explain, 'cause I don't see it at all. Wandy has a 3.62 K/BB rate vs. McDonald's 1.70 this season. Wandy also has a few years of 160+ Ks, while you're assuming McDonald may get there one day (Mac D's seasonal high is just 68).

I mean this with all due respect, but c'mon now. All things considered, Jay has no job this year besides filling in. Hart hit 31 HRs with 102 RBIs last year. If you want to think a fill-in with some signs of talent is better than an All Star who went 30/100, then there may not be any convincing you to go for it this year over keeping an eye peeled on the future (which is always a losing proposition, IMO).

Even in an NL-only, I don't see Janish, Jay or McDonald as being anything besides replacement level.
I'm not usually one to gloat, but I'm pretty confident I made the right call on this one.

                          Since May 22nd:
                          Espinosa - 24 R, 11 HR, 28 RBI, 9 SB, ~.350 OBP
                          Jay - 18 R, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 3 SB, ~.335 OBP
                          McDonald - 56 2/3 IP, 3.02 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 46 K's, 3 W

                          Drew - 23 R, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 1 SB, ~.280 OBP
                          Hart - 29 R, 13 HR, 30 RBI, 2 SB, ~.360 OBP
                          Rodriguez - 42 IP, 4.07 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 40 K's, 3 W

Plus, had I made that trade I would not have had the cap room to acquire Hunter Pence, Carlos Pena, and Hiroki Kuroda.
