  • Minor League Pick

On Friday I have the 2nd pick in our midseason minors draft. I only have 1 pick. All players from the MLB draft are available and these are some of the best available minor leaguers. We have a 3 man minors system. Promoted Acuna to open a slot. Currently have Tatis Jr and Rodgers as my other two.

Riley, Urias, Adell, Florial, M. Baez, J. Sanchez, L. Taveras, j. Jones, Marsh, Y. Alvarez, C. Kieboom. Harrison.

I'm leaning going with players closest to the bigs and taking Riley or Urias...whichever is available. Agree? All opinions welcome

I’m far from a prospect guru, but I’d take Riley.

Riley and Urias are definitely the closest to the majors so if that's what you're looking for they're your guys.

Jo Adell has a ton of upside though, where Urias is more of a floor guy (BA guy with some pop and no speed).

Riley just got put on the 7-day DL so might want to see what that ends up being.

Riley would be my pick, too. Dont know why the DL stint.

Urias is supposed to be up this year, too. But he's recently been in a terrible slump (4-33), reportedly since they tried to change his swing/approach to get more power.

Jahmai Jones also could be up this year. Heaven knows the Angels could use him if he's ready. Rt now they have Chris Young (.159), Kole Calhoun (.145) and Michael Hermosillo (.200 0 RBI) in their OF along w Trout and Upton.

I don't see the appeal of Urias for fantasy. Unless he has the Lindor/Albies transformation (which obviously could happen), his ceiling is DJ LeMahieu. That's worth something but it's not a #2 pick.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

            I'd go Riley.

I agree. Not a urias fan for fantasy. Riley is the logical pick here, although I like some other names there as well. He may take a bit longer to get to the majors, but Yordan Alvarez will be a good one, if he ever gets to his power raw power.

Thanks for all the replies and opinions. I'd bet Riley goes 1st so just trying to figure out my pick if/when he does. I like to cycle through my minors guys(great trade chips). Guys who have 3 players not up for 2-3 years miss out on a lot of guys as they don't get to participate in our twice a year draft if they don't have an open spot. I'm trying to concentrate on guys who will see the bigs in 2018 or 2019.

Yordan is probably closer to the majors than the other guys you list. I think he will be up in 2019.

Mize went first so I took Riley. Probably not the upside of Adell or a couple others but I didn't want to tie the spot up until 2020 or 2021. Thanks again for all the replies.

FYI, Riley out for several weeks w sprained PCL (whatever that is). Doesnt sound like something that will keep him from being brought up later this year.
