  • I've got a weird question...

Just why do they use different balls in the minor leagues? I just read a little blurb on Anthony Banda getting called up to the majors, and he said that he knew it was happening when they gave him MLB balls to use in his bullpen session. Anyone know this one?

MLB baseballs are of a much higher quality, presumably in the type of leather they use. Why they can't calibrate the tightness or smoothness or whatever makes these MLB balls fly out of the park is a mystery to me though. Maybe different factories?

Because at major league balls the food is more expensive. Also there is free alcohol at the bar. They eat a lot of cake too. They have a red carpet when you drive up to the ball in your limousine. And the dance floor is much bigger, although they don't say the word dance, they say things like 'cut the rug'.

          Rotoworld.
Alex Cobb is scheduled to throw a five-inning simulated game on Wednesday.
Cobb made it through a four-inning simulated start Friday without issue. The Orioles would probably like for him to make a minor league rehab start before inserting him into their rotation, but he can't use a major league ball in those outings and so simulated work makes a little more sense. The 30-year-old right-hander signed a four-year, $57 million contract with Baltimore in late March.

does this mean that major league balls are juiced and minor league ones are not? so when a hot rookie gets promoted, it just adds to the mashing... so we can expect their big league numbers to be better?
