What does everyone think of Lewis Brinson finally finding the bat rack?

Back in the day, he was an elite prospect, but that was three teams ago. Suddenly he's hitting .364 with power. The .300 average is not sustainable, but the power is real. He hit 22 HR in a AAA pitcher's park this year. Brinson also plays outstanding OF defense, and the Giants are a team that appreciates that.

For 2023, is he worth a stab over the likes of Joey Gallo or Kiké Hernandez?
It's 11 AB, not time to hop on board yet. Plus the giants tend to rotate a lot of hitters. But if he costs nothing I suppose you could grab him and hope for the best. Gallo and Hernandez are not amazing.

he has over 1000 career MLB AB, and over 200 in three separate seasons. He's been given a shot. Maybe he is better now, but not something to count on.

      • Holy shit...yes Brinson has gotten a whole bunch of shots and he sucked every time. Im sure he will be the second coming of Willie Mays now that he's gone.

        • Ha! Didn’t have any sense he had received that many ABs. Wow.

I did because I watched him reach AA and AAA in 2015 with Texas. I didn't pull the trigger then but his complete lack of success has always been a mystery.

Brinson was never projected to hit for a lot of average, but ML average or close to it. Instead, the past two weeks have pushed his career average over .200 for the first time. Still, players have figured things out late. Hitting .240 would have been enough with his power and defense. If he can do .260 then he will play every day and hit 25 HR or better.

In any event, the small 2022 ML sample is built on a solid AAA season in a bad hitter's park.

            • I’m always willing to give a former top 20 prospect a shot, but he needs to finally show something. Another HR tonight, maybe he’s doing that now. But I’m talking like a 28th rd pick next year.

well right now he's in a huge slump, his batting average has dropped all the way from .364 down to .294 in just a couple days. At this rate he will be hitting .200 by the weekend. Extrapolating, his average will be below .000 in just over a week.

No way, he's way better of a hitter than that.

                      I wouldn't count on it.

I didn't know there would be so much division on this topic.

There's enough of that without you adding to it.
