  • RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects ("Opening Day" Version)

Opening day is here! Time for an update of my roto prospects list.

Same spiel as usual: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), and actual closers are upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

    How the mighty have fallen.

I'm curious about Hader, since he is in the major leagues.

I think it (Hader) because he is now a bullpen guy. However, that probably depends on league format---in my league with 6 SP's and 5 RP's, as an RP, he might be more valuable.

As for a question from me, I guess spring training does not count for much given that the top two remained as is. (I say this as a Braves fan but an owner of both.)

        Thanx for the response, J.

Hader hasnt even been mentioned, AFAIK, for moving into the rotation and he's not the closer and is behind a pretty elite closer. So I dont see where he's among the top 150 roto prospects even if he is a quality setup guy.

Yes, ST stats count for very little, especially concerning 2 elite prospects.

How much of the rise in Kingery’s profile is attributable to role (ie playing time / near-term impact) vs. expectation of strong(er) performance?

Also, where would you slot Julio Urias if he were eligible?

            Thanks, rhd!

Thanx as always for the response, Sharky.

Kingery was just below Hays before the word that he would start the season w the big club so most of the rise was due to favorable scouting reports and high rankings recently.

I guess Urias would be about where Honeywell (and now Puk) is.

Gotta love the added value in Kingery likely acquiring 2B/3B/OF this year. If he can get 20+ at all 3 spots this year, he's gold for next year, having both MI and CI is extra sweet.
Larry David was once being heckled, long before any success. Heckler says "I'm taking my dog over to fuck your mother, weekly." Larry responds "I hate to tell you this, but your dog isn't liking it."

Does anyone have thoughts on Blaze Jordan? I know super young. I am thinking of taking a flier on him in the last round of my M draft. We have a deep pool.

The top 50 guys on RHD's list are all gone. There are also many taken from beyond 50 as well. I am thinking the possible reward could be worth the risk as what is available to me with this last pick doesn't look too promising.

He actuallly is only 1 year younger than Maitan when I drafted him. I know it isn't looking great for Maitan but high high ceiling guys are what I am looking for and have had success with.

I picked him up in my dynasty league and we only have 34 roster limits and start 22. It will take some willpower on my part to hang on to him however. I did the same thing with Ohtani when most hadn't heard of him and didn't hang on to him long.

Thanks for your reply. I did the same with Ohtani, and still have him. I have no problem at all waiting for players to make it to the bigs. Our M rosters don't count against main roster and we can have as many as we want (until they lose rookie status). We have a 3 round draft every year.

I think i am going to take him. Hitting on a player with great upside is extremely helpful and it seems worth the risk.

Doesn't seem like much, if any risk at all if you can have as many non MLB players as you want. I wouldn't call him a minor leaguer, that's still a few years away...

Yes, no risk. Just my non MLB (we desinate all as M) isn't as strong in recent years. I keep winning so I have to draft last in each round : )

But I hit on guys like Tanaka, Abreu, BHam, Springer, Altuve, and now have Ohtani.

I have no top guys in pipeline after this year so hoping to have a guy or 2 in next few years. Going into the year with a top M guy is such a great bonus. In their 1st year they don't count against cap or roster spot so it is like a fre extra player. When they are actually contributing at a top level it helps so much. Had this happen many times in past years with guys mentioned above. Have had other help from guys like Yuli & Maeda too. Just super big bonus when you get a $20 or more performer added to your roster at no cost.

Having said that I took Blaze so hoping 5 years or so from now I am happy with the choice

If he's Harper II, you should get a payoff within 5 seasons...how long can you keep the player after he gets to the majors?

There's a couple of guys who are already in the pipeline who MIGHT be growing into Vladdy jr and Tatis status...Jhailyn Ortiz of Philadelphia and Eteury Ruiz od SD are two of my man crushes right now. rhd has them in the 140's area.
