What do you look for in a SP that makes you roll dice? Is it filthy stuff or a new pitch? Is it swing and miss rate? Is it a pattern on improving K/BB or BB/9? Is it time after an injury or surgery? Change of venue?

Here are some names. Which are worth an extra couple round or few dollars because they may have something new, figured something out, may finally be healthy, or have better defense or ballpark?

    Zack Wheeler
    Jharel Cotton
    Kent Maeda
    Taijuan Walker

    Others?

    J
    Ad Astra per Aspera

Hopefully, I will avoid this problem this year, but usually what makes me roll the dice on a few pitchers is that auction budgets aren't big enough and the rules say I have to fill the slots with some meatball. Hell, I rostered Sidney Ponson once. I am still not over it.

Zach Wheeler appears to be the odd man out of the rotation, at least until the next Mets injury.

Which means he should be in the opening day rotation unless he's hurt.

Maeda and Walker don't seem like huge gambles, at least in relatively deep leagues. Those two jump off the page for me.

Who has the biggest payout if he hits?

Maeda gives you better numbers when he's in there but he has the health risk and he didn't pitch deep into games last year.
Walker more reliable but he doesn't strike out quite as many as Maeda and he walks more.

I personally like Walker, but they are close for me.

I hope to avoid that tier this year, lol.
