I understand it wasn't as much the money as the extra year. Other teams only wanted to go 4...they might have stretched to 5, but it was the 6 years offer by the Cubs which finally cinched it.

Somebody has to be the Evil Empire...the once loveable Cubs have grown up to be spendy carnivores.
