  • 2018 AL Only Keeper List

    Looking for opinions on my main 12 team AL league keepers. 10 Keepers + 10 Farm. Top 9 seem mostly obvious, but I struggle with the 10th spot. Love my SP/RP mix, despite no definite closers.

    Categories are standard 5x5, with Saves turning into (SV + 1/2 HLD) for 2019.

    M. Stroman $15 - 2019
    J. Berrios $5 - B
    B. Snell $6 - B
    M. Clevenger $1 - B
    K. Kela $1 - B
    C. Green $3 - B
    G. Sanchez $5 - B
    R. Mondesi $5 - B
    B. Dozier $28 - X (not extending... my guess is he'd go close to $40 if tossed back, which doesn't sound like a bad alternative.)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    C. Devenski $6 - B (probably redundant with Kela and Green)
    M. Joyce $3 - B (ceiling is low because he faces mostly righties, but another possible 20-25 HRs from a $3 guy is decent)
    M. Zunino $13 - B (Should I lock in my 2 catchers for $18 total? Zunino delivered on the breakout that my $13 bid predicted... so hang on, right? Will his BA crater again?)
    JD Davis $2 - B (I like his chances at 400+ AB's with 20+ HR... I also like that he'll probably gain 1B/3B/OF, and that he could become a nice trade piece/keeper by mid-season)
    FARM
    1) D. Fowler - OF - OAK
    2) C. Stewart - OF - DET
    3) AJ Puk - SP - OAK
    4) A. Hansen - SP - CHW
    Likely Farm drops:
    C. Gillaspie - 1B - CHW
    R. Tellez - 1B - TOR
    L. A. Basabe - OF - CHW
    G. Allen - OF - CLE
    G. Stubbs - C - HOU
    J. Staumont - SP - KC
    Considering adding Greg Allen or LA Basabe to my Farm... Basabe is young and will get to repeat A+, Allen is a likely 4th OF, but could hold value if he becomes a regular and nabs 30 SB. I also hate thinking about Rowdy Tellez breaking out, as he's up to AAA at a young age, and will have the chance to take over Jays' 1B if he hits... But with minor leaguers, you have to have a quick hook. Even going 120 deep into AL prospects, I guess these are all cuts.
        I may not understand your farm keeper rules; why wouldn't you keep the extra 3 you mentioned. Especially Allen. If he is free and gets 4th OF status any sbs he provides are free. Seems like a great gamble.
          Likely opportunity cost. If you drop and get an extra roster spot where you can pick up any player, if you count the number of players taken then you need even your "free" players to be in the top X players or it does not make sense to keep.
            This is right, 10 farm spots, with 12 teams, means the top 120 eligible farm guys from the AL.
            Greg Allen could be my last farm keeper, but I'd rather have a lottery pick around #100-#120, I think. I've got a few lower probability young guys in mind with HR/SB potential that can be scooped at the end.
