  • Trade help 5X5 AL ONLY

In a 10 team standard 5x5 league I was offered Brad Peacock $10 2nd year for Gausman $10 2nd year and Teoscar Hernandez $5 1st year.

I have seen depth charts showing Peacock as high as #3 for Houston to being in the pen. Peacock threw well last year but if he isnt in the rotation I do not think I am as interested. Gausman will obviously be in the rotation for the Orioles. Being in the East Gausman could regularly get shellacked by the Yanks and Sox. Plus given his year last year he may get shellacked by everyone. I have always liked Gausman (drafted him as a minor leaguer and he has been on my team since) and I think my judgement on him is clouded or I am just hoping he finally figures it out. I wonder if Gausman would even go for $10 in the auction. Hernandez is of little use to me. I already have 4 OF going into the auction so he is expendable.

    Any thoughts?

I would easily make the trade.

Peacock's low whip and high k's would be worth the gamble at this early stage of our game. Much like the Cubs it seems Houston is rumored to be involved with every FA starter. That makes me a little nervous in trading for him as he might be relegated to the bull pen if Houston signs another starter.

My nervousness would not prohibit me from making this trade as I would not keep Gausman at $10 this year. Hernandez for a gamble on Peacock is something I would love to have a shot at. Keeping a bullpen Peacock would depend on my other keepers and what was back in the auction. At this point I would be leaning to keeping him either way as his value to Houston lies in being at the least an innings eater of high quality. It would however be a roster deadline decision for me.

Agree- make the trade, then make your final keeper decisions later, but either way this improves you

Agree. I probably would not keep either, but Peacock seems to have the greater likelihood of draft value at that price.

In a 10 team league, the most likeliest player I keep is the $5 hernandez (if he has the starting gig in April)

I guess I'm the opposite. In a 10 team league I don't see any reason to roster a player who a) has never done anything in mlb and b) has an upside of 15/15/.260 and c) at 25 isn't really a prospect anymore. He's a $1 player for me in a 10 team.

On the other hand if Peacock starts for the Astros $10 is probably a little high but not unreasonably high with his breakout last year.
