Denard Span and Christian Arroyo coming back to the Rays.

    Interesting.

Can't imagine Rays fans are happy about this. Are the Rays rebuilding? Will there be any recognizable MLB players in Florida this year?

Florida is now the North Division of the Cuban International league.

Now what about the Jays and Donaldson? BAL lost Britton and might trade Machado. TB traded Longoria and is perpetually shopping Archer. The Jays could be staring at two 90-loss teams in their division making a Wild Card a bit more realistic.

On the other hand, the top 5 in the AL is pretty tough (ANA/HOU, NYY/BOS, and CLE). If the Twins are really in on Darvish/Cobb/Archer that could push the Jays further away. But TB didn't get that much for Longoria. So how much can the Jays get for Donaldson?

If the Jays are the 6th best team in the AL should they keep Donaldson for a while?

who knows ... there does seem to be a path to the second wildcard, which is what mgmt seems to be banking on; and realistically one or two good signings could get us in the picture.

The question of how much can they get for Donaldson is the key. St Louis seems to reallllly want him, but are they willing to include Reyes? I think that's the deciding factor. I'll be honest, my first reaction as a Jays fan upon seeing Longoria to the Giants was, good, one less option for the Cards; put Reyes on the table & let's get something done.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

If I'm St. Louis, I don't give up Reyes for one year of Donaldson, no way, no how. And certainly not for 20 million or so...I believe that he's going to be in arbitration this upcoming year, no?

Reyes is a potential ace, a true #1. You don't give those guys away for a rental, IMO, especially after you've already invested the time into his rehab.

which is ultimately why I don't think Donaldson will be moved; it's nice to dream though

I'm not buying the Angels yet. They added a lot of pieces, but there was a lot of work that needed doing. Even with Ohtani, the rotation looks brittle and the bullpen is not the Nasty Boys. Stranger things have happened, but I am not yet convinced.

Longoria blows. Probably WW fodder in 12-14 team mixed leagues.

Nah, he's much better than that. .270/25/85 would be a solid baseline to look at.

I can see him around 18-20 at 3b. If the power uptick in mlb continues he falls a few more spots.

Looking closer, you may be right, even if my stat line is close. 3rd base is stacked...

I'm not sure he gets to 25 in San Fran. That place is brutal on RH power and Longoria's exit velo has been waning of late

Starting pitching is definitely plagued with a history of injuries. Thing I have come to believe in roto: "if a player has several dl stints over a couple of years, he is probably going to have a couple more over the next several years". Now, if they can find 25 starts for Richards and Ohtani, that would be a pretty good front 2 to build the rest of your staff around.

I don't think the bullpen is bad, or even just average. Parker (94mph in '17), Bedrosian (96mph in '16), Middleton (97.3mph in '17), without the name recognition, are definitely hard throwers.

And the offense is going to be very good.

I think the Angels can win 90 games.
